Thank you to all at the NRM for putting this together. 6 hour round trip for me from Peterborough, but well worth it!

Just returned from Shildon Was very impressed.
Congratulations and thanks to all who made it happen.
Wont bore everyone with the same pics again. But did see all these bits and bobs on display in the workshop. Am suspecting that the numbers, letters and trim are those that were used on Bittern (DofNZ) last year. As DofNZ is 4492 and the 8 is the only number missing also the trim has signs of use.
The brass bell is also on display. P1030616.JPG

    Evening all,

First of all, may I say a huge thank you to everyone who has posted photographs and videos of 60008 and 60010 on NP Forum. For us Southern folk who don't have time to visit Shildon, I'm sure I speak on behalf of the rest of the Southern lot that we are extremely grateful for your contributions.

I have had a little look through the Exporail Facebook group, and I must say it is a bit of a laugh reading some of the idiotic comments that have been posted on there by UK rail enthusiasts. If you haven't already read some of these comments, then please do visit it - it makes for great reading (when I say great...)!

I wonder how many people on that group look back at what they wrote and thought how stupid they sounded? The answer: probably none!

    Here's to Mallard75 next year!

Looks like (correct me if wrong), that the checks on 60010 are complete by the absence of the gaffa tape on the side by the weekend, 60008 to be done next week ?.

Correct David, and it's a bright afternoon in Shildon for those wondering, but be aware that the museum is on winter opening hours now and closes at 4.

Plan is for the locos to be inside from Tuesday on, so tomorrow is the last day before next weekend for them to be outside.

Ok, the sun's out again. I guess you take your chance. That's the last weather update from Shildon today, Mrs C thinks I've gone daft commenting on the climate!

    Hi

I too managed to make the trip to Shildon yesterday. Thanks to all concerned on both sides of the Atlantic who made it happen.

I was very pleased to see quite a number of the visitors near the locos yesterday who had made the effort to go and look at them even though at times the weather was a little cool and wet. I suspect probably the main event for the majority of people in attendance was the model railway exhibition which was taking place in the main hall. Quite a lot of the visitors seemed to realise something very special was taking place in the yard outside that would never be repeated so they wanted a go and have a look.
It was nice to see a railway artist drawing the scene - let's hope the poor guy didn't get too cold and wet stuck outside.
    .
Funny thing though, it just struck me this morning that in the last 8 days I've seen 5 of the surviving A4s - UoSA & Mallard the Sunday previously at York, Sir Nigel Gresely last Thursday night at Pickering and DOC & Dwight this Sunday sat Shildon. Also all six of them in the last 5 months as I saw Bittern at the Spring Gala on the NYMR in May.

Looking forward to seing the Mallard 75 celebrations unfold over the coming months.

When 4489 returns to Canada will its BR numberplate and Double Chimney be going on display there or are they being kept over here?

They still belong to their owner.. so I couldnt see why they would stay.

Hi Dan, they will be returning to Canada, (along with the overhead danger flashes), where they will form part of a display about the locomotive and it's history. It is hoped to eventually display the loco in the new building, over a pit, where the public can then view the third, inside, cylinder, and the tender water scoop gear.

In case you were wondering, it has been pointed out to us that Mallards BR number plate went for a lot of money when it was auctioned off, but Exporail is a museum, and not a preserved railway, and like most museums, the policy is that artifacts in the collection are, as a rule, not sold off to raise funds.

I want to thank those who have shared photos of the three A4's lined up together, it whets the appetite for next years big event..

    Owd Sweedy.

Thanks. Sounds like some great plans for when she returns.

There's a couple of UK coaches still in the US at various locations, that would be appropriate with the A4, 2 of them are not too far away in Michigan, maybe you could pick one or two up to couple up to a display with 60010.
