That depends where you live. In the south Wales valleys locos were often referred to as he, in terms like 'He's a good un' or 'He's rough as a badger's arse' etc.

They're all ianimate objects, so "it" is the best compromise!

Awkward, cantankerous, unpredictable and expensive yet warming, lovable and good to watch go by. Doesn't sound like a description of a male, to me.

I think it's a subjective thing, dependent on personal opinion. No-one can be wrong. Locos tend to be she for me except those named after blokes.

As a one time Marine Engineer, I used to take great pleasure in referring to ships as 'it' just to annoy the salty sea dogs! :D

Steam locomotives are most definitely female as they are things of great beauty, have stunning lines and curves to them, but can be a bit temperamental at times. If you treat them well they will reward you for there efforts and it is amazing the results you can get from a few kind words of encouragement and some gently stroking.

    Back to topic time?

Well done to all the SLL people for such a fantastic restoration job.

I don't think he/she/it is quite ready to regularly haul revenue earning trains yet. Almost - but not quite.

Technically she already has pulled a revenue earning service when it assisted 3650 on a round trip last week.

Any chance of SKP being out on test/running in this weekend ? should be over on Sunday for a bit to see 3650 before she heads home.

Somehow I doubt it. Weekdays are better for testing as they have more paths and time to run. Saturday is particularly busy with a Footplate experience and a charter in the afternoon.
