    Hi all,

Currently planning our 1960's Event which will be taking place over the weekend of July 14th & 15th.

At the moment we're hoping to bring you a selction of locomotives from our home fleet.
Currently confirmed, but subject to availability, it is intended that 47327, 73129, 1163 "Whitehead" and a DMU will be running. 12077 should be used for yard duties.

We're working on diesel locomotives at the moment, and we hope to have some interesting news in the next couple of weeks regarding visiting locomotives.

It is intended to operate an intensive service over the weekend, with a demonstration goods and parcels train. The DMU is likely to operate over the Swanwick Branch.

The Narrow Gauge Event will be taking place on both days, with a special timetable in operation. A Road Rally will take place on the Sunday.

There will be live music from Fiona Harrison who will be performing songs from the 1950's and 1960's on both days.

All in all, it looks set to be a decent weekend. Has anybody else any idea what they would like to see?

    Paul

A bit more information regarding the 1960's Event.

The website has just gone live and has relavant information on it.

Locomotives arn't up yet, but they are likely to be as stated!
A special timetable is being worked on as we speak. This should see a passenger train every 40 minutes from Swanwick and Butterley.

A 1960's tribute band, The Rapids have also been booked to play on the Sunday.

The annual Road Rally, taking place on the Sunday, is getting rather full. Not sure of the exact numbers but should be well over 50 vehicles.

Will update as soon as I have any news regarding locomotives.

A public timetable is now available to download here and from the website.
Currently the locomotive allocations havn't been finalised, but this should give you a rough idea of what to expect.

46233 Duchess of Sutherland doble headed all day or is it top and tail?

Last time I saw the Duchess on a gala at midlands it had a diesel in front of it all day long and tender first in the other direction both days, Looks like we only have to suffer this once, but still double headed on every run, why?

Thanks, missed that bit, maybe tenpting fate here, namely when the duchess is on the front will it be smoke box first is it a case of wait and see, wouldn't normly be this picky but as I said last time out it was ethier bunker first or with a diesel in the front.

46233 will be double headed from Swanwick to Hammersmith, where the front engine will run round to the rear.

The train will be top and tailed down to Riddings, then top and tailed back up, which means that 46233 will be running smokebox first at the front of the train from Riddings to Swanwick, a section of line which is mostly uphill.

The only trip it doesn't do that is on the 14:30 from Riddings on Saturday, where it will double head with 73129.

As stated earlier, D1501 will now no longer be attending. We're intending to get 47401 out as a replacement. Although not green, its the closest engine to D1501!

The website is due to be updated once this has been confirmed. Diagrams will remain the same with D1501 being replaced by 47401.

    Currently, locomotives are facing:

    Up Direction (To Hammersmith)
    73129
    46233

    Down Direction (To Riddings)
    1163
    47327
    D8048

We've put a display of non-working 1950's/1960's locomotives outside. This so far includes 27000 "Electra", which is usually in the museum, D212, D4 and D2858, again usually inside the museum.

Parcels train is currently formed as
    513353, 2151 and 27093.

Goods train is currently formed as:
    62523, 992326,
    992328,
    991623,
    3200,
    3236,
    752301,
    499611,
    7823,
    7821,
    990x91, and 731791

Currently the road rally has over 90 cars booked. Should be well worth seeing.

Hope this helps for anybody wishing to pay a visit.

Website has been updated. Updated timetables available, however only changes are that D1500 has replaced D1501.

I'd like to say thank you to every member of staff at the Midland Railway yesterday who made the event happen. The timetable may not have gone exactly to plan with some locomotives apparently swapping diagrams but I certainly enjoyed myself. I hope the event was a successful one and will look forward to my next visit at some point in the near future.
