the diesel will have to come off at Victoria anyway to allow tornado to attach so its now to bad. Apparently she was very thirsty at redhill today?
Hope the rest of the trip goes well!

Rushed through hitchin at 14:06 on the fast chasing a freight liner on the slow in line. If your trying to get a photo at present it'll be spoilt as they are both doing 60mph plus! Hearing that tornado will go onto the slow at Biggleswade chatting with people here.

Saw her further south at Woolmer Green where she was about 12 early. Yes, she's booked SL from Biggleswade to Holme and then back on the main.

Tornado passed Offord running 10 minutes early on the easy timings and was being heavily checked by the freightliner in front .Tornado was travelling at about 30mph rather than the usual 70mph at this location . Hope they have some better running later .

Day 1 went well. The Brit blasted up Hildenborough at 40 and Tornado wasn't stretched (according to the driver) but still went over the top of Stoke at 71. And did anyone have a helicopter on Grosvenor Bridge where Britannia had just finished banking Tornado as Clan Line was being pulled up the other side for the OE Luncheon Circular. Three great pacifics on the main line within sight of each other. Fantastic.

Lovely photos and videos but one thing spoils everything. What can that be? Incorrect head code on 70000. There should be one over the left buffer and one over the right, i.e. passenger working. The one on its own in the middle is for a light engine.

If I was the signalman, I would have stopped the train and not let it proceed until the headlamps had been sorted out.

Just not good enough I am afraid and more care should be taken in future. LOL

By the way, 60163 topped Druimuachdar at 49 mph (minimum of 37 mph on the climb
) with load 11. With that sort of performance, who cares about whether the lamps are correct.

By the way indeed!! Just a few lines that describe something really remarkable. And the sustained 37 mph was achieved for mile after mile on the continuous 1 in 70 with 11 for about 410 tons gross behind the tender and a whisp of steam at the safety valves. I'm not an expert on drawbar horsepower but my 'back of the envelope' calculation comes out at something approaching 2100 dbhp. (Anyone able to confirm the figure?) Don't let's forget Bittern that turned in close to an even time run from the signal stop at Heaton South Junction to the water stop at Berwick. Another great day.
