The 2012 Jacobite steam service between Fort William and Malliag is not due to commence until Monday 14 May.

But the BBC is reporting that there was an incident with trepassers on Glenfinnan Viaduct on 21 March involving a steam locomotive. Can anyone confirm the loco and service ?

Yeah, it was BBC getting it all wrong! The closest to a steam locomotive being on the line on that date would be a clagging DRS 37 on auto ballast drops.

And the funny thing is, it was actually the driver of a ScotRail class 156 that braked and reported the women....

I'm sure at one time you could add comments to any story on the BBC website. The facility seems to have been removed a bit ago. Perhaps they Beeb were fed up with people correcting their glaring errors.

Less than 2 weeks to go before the Jacobites start. Any news on locos? 45231 is out of traffic for a new backhead, 44871 isn't due to move north until the afternoon services start in June, 45407 won't be heading north until the end of July according to Riley.

Assuming the K1 is still going up next Monday (reportedly working the ECS, not engine and coach), another loco will still be needed. It would be unwise to use a loco straight out of overhaul without having a spare available, plus washouts will be needed. The K4 is listed on UKsteam for the first couple of weeks; is this still likely? The only other locos I can think that may be used are 48151 and 44932.

61994 will be heading up soon anyway to do it's job on the Cathedrals explorer, so it should head away soon. Is she still at Barrow hill? It would make more sense to run the ECS with 62005 and 61994 and have them moved on the same day

Be interesting to find out what caused all that the other day. Obviously not too much which is good news.

45231 has been withdrawn for major boiler repairs. The Jacobite will feature 62005 and 61994 to start, then 44871 for the pm services, and later 45407 which will replace 61994.
