    Hi all,

I wonder if someone could kindly point me in the direction of some good locations to photograph the VSOE on it's Surrey Hills route.
I'm particularly looking for somewhere on the stretch from Guildford to Reigate. This is a part of the country I am totally unfamiliar with so any tips, suggestions etc. would be most welcome.

    Thanks,

    Paul

    Another spot is marked here:

This is a foot crossing that can get quite crowded. This view from the public side of the gates with the aid of a ladder and looking west.

You can park down Parklands, road map here:

Although a better alternative is the parking marked on the first OS map, then walk through the wood to the crossing. Another view can be obtained from the high road bridge to the east of the car park. I don't have any images from there but someone else may have one to post on here.

Ranmore Common has some brilliant views of the line - not for close ups but see these two videos:

You can usually get a shot at Shalford from the second bridge to the west of the station and then continue to the east as it stops for water at Shalford for approx 15 minutes.

I would however suggest scouting out your second location as the roads round there are not the fastest.

Only just found this thread, mine and my Dads video linked above! Ranmore Common only really work with Redhill to Guildford trains as thats uphill, not the usual VSOE route which is downhill. You get a nice long shot from the bridge just east of Chilworth but you need steps as it is very high!! MN no.35028 'Clan Line' (as 35017 'Belgian Marine') | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

Hackhurst Farm and the foot crossings around Albury have several shots and angles available, though the roads are steep/narrow around there so I usually park in the closest village and walk but that limits your chasing chances. I made Worplesdon to Albury that way once but had to run uphill up Blackheath Lane, Albury for about a mile, with camera, camcorder, tripod etc which wasn't that much fun!

Thanks for the useful tips, on my last visit to Shalford a few Fridays ago I asked the guys in the yard where the blue storage containers are ( the ex - B.R.S. parcels depot ) if it was o.k. to take a few shots. they were very obliging. You can get a good departure shot there. Not sure about Saturdays though.
