There was an A5 leaflet printed last week and I distributed several hundred of these during last weeknds Swindon Railway Festival where I was manning one of the 6880 mini stands.

The full leaflet - similar to the format used on SSS2 - is being worked on.

It takes a long time to produce such an informative product. I am sure you will be given some to distribute once they are printed.

Thanks for that Neil, you did well at Swindon. I was also distributing the A5 flyer at the Llangollen Gala on Friday and Saturday and getting a good response! Sunday was firing 78019, good loco!

Is there likey to be a 'Cambrian Day' like last time. With 7822, 5199 and maybe 80072 you could do one, but with no visitor engines suitable that might not happen which would be a pitty as that was my best day at the last one....

I wish the 6880 group the best of luck with the gala however I do hope that despite the amount of visiting engines and the extremley high transport costs that they still manage to make the gala a success.

I believe that the going rate to transport a tender loco by road is upwards of £5,000 on a one way trip, if the group has to pay for a return trip then they could be looking at a massive transport bill.

Surely a couple of visiting locos like 70000 and 60163 would bring in more profit than 6 visiting locos?

Agree with this post, and there is the other issue that if the railway does attract the needed number of visitors then there won't be enough room on the trains for those who want to travel, and too many lineside photographers getting in each other's way.

I enjoyed this year's SSG with its minimalist approach, but I think I'll give this one a miss, there is such a thing as going too far.

    Regards

Gosh, nothing like support. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Don't forget this is a 2 weekender and a week long gala... If as many turn up as expected they won't need an SSS4 as 6880 will be in steam...now if they did, maybe they could do an SSS4 on tour and show some other lines how it's done :)

I plan to be there, not every day will be over crowded.

That is because all 6880 websites are down as they are being transferred from the old volunteer run host to a new paid for host.

As a shareholder I would like to know the reason for this. Is it too much for the volunteer(s) concerned, or another case of donations being squandered unnecessarily ?

The volunteer (Simon) was happy to continue. However those in charge felt it was better to follow the route chosen for whatever reason. I know no more than that.

And just how much is " an engineering survey " on a boiler ? last time i worked on it the tubes were still in it, havent any volunteers taken them out yet ? as we were about too
cant be that expensive for a thickness of plates test ultrasonic for cracks and a boiler inspection by the insurance man and a combined visit with somthing else for the VAB guys?

The ticket prices, especially for one day are too cheap. For a gala of this quality a MINIMUM of £25.00 would be reasonable. It isn't as if most visitors have families with them - most appear to be single persons or groups of adults. When you compare this to the price of a Premier League football match ticket (average £40.00) it's a bargain. The extra few pounds per ticket would cover the cost of the new website provider, the very expensive sounding survey & probably the cylinders as well.

I think Bobs right £20 is far too cheap for the amount of metal thats " supposed " to be there £25 is more like it and no lower, the CVR/MCR gala proved that.
In comparison to events i have been too NEC motoring etc plus you get stung £8 for parking
