In the May/June issue of Steam Railway magazine there was an intriguing photo of the remains of the pit of the old Hellifield turntable which seems to have recently been uncovered. Also there was a photo showing some new watering facilities which have been installed by West Coast (Carnforth), the photo showing Scots Guardsman's tender being filled and the short caption saying West Coast own the land.

What is the story about the new building that was put up there on the opposite side of the track, but then never completed ?

Are there plans to re-install more stuff there, what about the station itself. Any new developments ? It's particularly interesting for myself as my grandfather was a steam driver based at the old Hellifield MPD.

From what i understand there was a group who were going to build a golf cousre and a hotel and other things very close and were putting some money towards it. But then they went bankrupt and never built it. So the money dried up. Thats what someone told me so dont take me as fact.

Wasnt there a planning dispute regarding the shed?

Reinstating proper watering facilities at Hellifield would make sense as there is so many steam railtours that go through there it would probably make life easier for everyone involved.

I do believe the shed was built without planning permission. Unfortunately from what I know a planning application was submitted and refused.

    Bradley,

Should have had some well chromed caravans, transit pickups and horses around, retrospection permission would soon have been granted. :rolleyes1:

    Pesmo,

This video at 2.30 shows 46115 watering at Hellifield on the 21st May, looks like reasonably 'proper' facilities to me.
