Slightly surprised this trip doesn't have a thread yet, so let's remedy that.

When was the last time that a Castle went to Euston? A friend suggested today that it might have been the 1948 loco exchanges! Does anyone know?

I shall pop over to Bucks. tomorrow lunchtime for a shot of the "climb" to Tring, and might even venture into the London 'burbs for the return. Here's hoping for a trouble-free run!

Certainly Launceston Castle took place in trials to Euston but was that in the 20's?

Not really something I know much about so may be wrong but certainly it was the correct loco, cant confirm the year tho.

    Getting on at Tyseley tomorrow.

    Cheers,
    Mark

It certainly was. No.5000 Launceston Castle was successfully tested between Carlisle and Euston in 1926. <BJ>

Will be out in a field west of Nunny for the return up the bank to Arley - hope the weather and light hold out! Have a great day if you're on board :)

Drifting past Canley this morning as Nuneaton shuttle was in platform 2 at Coventry. Bit of an anti-climax after 6201's run through here last Summer. Had to be cropped and resized as it was quite busy.

Don't think Castles were involved in the 1948 exchanges. In the express passenger class the GWR was represented by a King, not that it was able to run on all routes, a Hall in the mixed traffic class and a 2800 in the freight class.

Departed Northampton a couple of minutes early, after a similarly early arrival. Diesel idling on back.

Caught this on its return at Primrose Hill bridge next to old station. Now this area is full of lovies and as the bridge was once grafittied "two bob film stars" all of the beautiful people were out. Now of course lots of strange looks for those with camera's on the bridge but then lots of excitement when they saw what us sad buggers had been waiting for.

By the way the Castle looked smashing with the InterCity Headboard.

I was out on a exercise walk and forgot to take the camera I am afraid. I have poor iPhone video but nothing worth putting up. There were others there so hopefully something will appear.

I live in Kentish Town so get the odd local event and managed two in the past week, this and the St Pancras Hotel opening special. Whats strange I caught them near closed down stations this one next to Primrose Hill station and the former the long closed Lismore Circus Station. Shame Lismore Circus is closed as its 2 minute walk away and would be really useful.

Looked good at 18.00 approaching Tring. Pity about it being checked by an adverse signal.
