Thank you James. Makes good sense. The last thing main line steam needs is headline news coverage through adding to the large fires that are/have burned in the UK this week.

We need a Test Match very quickly, to get steam back on for the whole of the rest of the trip.

6201 held at Digswell Junc. to allow a service train through. From a standing start she was motoring well between the tunnels at Welwyn at 14.55.

And here we are - bang on cue - WX Weather shows it raining all the way from York to Stirling just as forecast right now - with more to come all day tomorrow.

As soon as any restriction or bans is applied - sure as the sunrise - along comes the rain! Anyone there to light up 4492 - or 60163??

Unfortunately, 45231 is reported on scot-rail.co.uk to have stopped at Plumpton (between Penrith and Carlisle) with a bearing problem on the rear axle of the tender. I gather it has subsequently limped into Carlisle Upperby. I do hope it can be fixed.

I said last month that Dobbin with his continuous record of sunny Great Britons must have a pact with the Devil. Steam Dreams must be very very saintly to suffer this run of mischance and mechanical failure

    Current Weather report here

    http://www.xcweather.co.uk/GB/observations

    Dry weather - where???

    Any chance of RIR???

If only Tangmere and Scots Guardsman had been allowed to go to their start points - no-one would have been waving fire risk paperwork today. And I wonder if 34067 would be cleared for the West Highland Line - what a match that would have been!
