Taken from the Yorkshire Post an article about a push this year to raise funds to restore Bahamas, this year being the 50th anniversary of the fitting of the double chimney. Details www.bahamas45596.co.uk

Well, the Bahamas Locomotive Society certainly has a posh website! Look forward to the engine re-appearing.

There's a coincidence, I was just looking at a photo I have of 45596 in the sheds at Haworth in 2003 before chancing upon this thread. It is almost obscured by pillars, shadows and 78022. It also has the distinction of being the first, and currently only Jubilee class locomotive I've yet seen (Leander never seems to be in the same part of the country as me, wherever I am, which was a similar situation to 30777 until last July!). I cabbed my first live locomotive there, 47279 at Oxenhope. Happy days! Good luck in her overhaul, and maybe I'll actually get to have a ride one day!

Article on the appeal is also in Steam Railway, £300K needed - money well spent if she comes back. Bahamas is my favourite Jubilee. I will look to donate.

Bahamas Loco Society says they already have £115,000 in the kitty for the overhaul.

yes but they need a minimum of £400,000, the £300,000 appeal target will be added to the existing fund, with any additional funds to go towards maintenance.

Is there a plan to take her mainline or just run on heritage lines?

Re: Bahamas...full steam aheadfor bid to restore classic engine

'Once it has been repaired to the high standards demanded by our Society and, of course, to those necessary to comply with stringent operating requirements, we have some exciting plans for the engine which will be overhauled to ‘main-line’ standards. The engine will then be able to once again operate over both main and ‘heritage’ lines in the UK.'

Does that answer your question?

Brilliant news! :D I will be out to see it at somepoint then... I hope it stays at the KWVR for a home base though as it's one of my favourite lines and it would be great to see it out and about

Re: Bahamas...full steam aheadfor bid to restore classic engine

yes it is being restored to run on the mainline as well as running on heritage railways as was the case with its last ticket which sadly i'm not old enough to remember, whats wrong with reading their newly revamped website with all the details on it, including how to support the appeal, for what is a very exiting project?

Excellent news, now all we need is Vintage Trains to get Kolhapur up and going! A post-Clun project maybe?

Was returned to traffic around 2003/2004 so there should be a short period for them to run together if all is well

Might be running together for ten years but not in the near future, BLS are looking at 2015 for Bahamas and Leanders ticket is up next year.
