I have to agree with this thought. What is wrong with any engine being retained in its most up-to-date configuration and the livery being changed as agreed by the owning members ballot? So who owns FS????

shouldn't we worry about getting the old girl back running before all the livery debates start again?

I will contribute to an appeal for these items. And my suggestion is to do this at scheduled overhaul times therefore the required work would be added to the boiler overhaul specification.

Full marks to that man, get the priorities right.
But nowt wrong with thinking ahead and planning for the next time she is withdrawn, assuming steam will still be on the mainline then of course!!

When Alan Peglar converted the chimney to single, was that done by Doncaster works? or did he have his own shop where he had it done?
did he encounter any major difficulties or huge cost?

All too often, those who express opinions about liveries are incapable of actually painting an engine to the required standard. I've lost count of the times I've had to flat out panels due to 'helpers'. These days I have no opinion on what colour an engine becomes, I only put on what colour I'm paid to paint! ;)

Only one account here - should be easily verifiable by IP checking, you don't think anyone would want to start a flame war with themselves do you?!

From the photos and footage taken during scotsmans Doncaster overhaul, they didnt fit a new smokebox, mearly welded in a bit of steel plate to fill the hole left when converted back to single chimney.

I believe it was done by BR at Doncaster since the purchase contract included the chimney conversion, repaint into LNER green and swapping the existing tender for a corridor tender. No doubt other work was done too. Alan Pegler also purchased various spares including the A4 boiler (many A3s carried A4 boilers in their later years of service). For several years he also had an agreement with BR to stable and service the loco at Carr Loco MPD.

Really, im totally incapable of running a government but that doesnt negate my right to a political opinion or to express my opinion on those doing it badly (or even well).
Pat on the back sunshine for the excellent work you have done, and long may you continue to do so.
Being able to do something well will not, im afraid, save you from those in charge asking you to do it differently or even wrongly so go on and grind your axe my friend, or better still try passing on some of your craft to these helpers...
