I agree, if possible run the tour and show that it can be done despite the conditions. There have already been several shots in the news of steam managing to run when all around are falling by the wayside, more favourable publicity cannot be a bad thing.

East Midlands Trains will not be running any Lincoln - Doncaster services tomorrow. This could mean the Doncaster - Gainsborough line is blocked. However, the Lincoln - Newark line is planned to be open. Could this mean the train may get diverted via Newark to reverse and head up to Lincoln?

James - I hesitate to disagree with you - BUT

When travel problems are such as they are at present; and all but essential travel is being discouraged
the national network and timetabled services are subject to emergency arrangements,
the Lincoln City Council have recommended that travel to Lincoln be avoided, (the A57 is blocked at North Anston in infinitely more urbanised country)
EMT and Northern have now publicly cancelled their timetabled services to Lincoln tomorrow, except from Peterborough, and can't operate replacement buses due to road conditions
every other charter operator has walked away taking the advice given.
an on site visit posted above by an intending photographer has indicated conditions are unpleasant to say the least, twelve inches of snow on the ground..........
let alone the inadvisability of travel on the east side of the Pennines for those joining the train - and I had some last Sunday before conditions worsened, choosing to stay in North Yorks rather than to drive home on snowed in roads in freezing fog - its not personal issues - its customer care and safety, and I'm afraid that I have to disagree with Ralph. 10 below is no time to start taking gambles

But when the cash till is ringing.................. At least there won't be any TDA minutes - you have the line south and east of Doncaster to yourself - for as long as it takes again.

I can only hope it works out for all concerned. I know the crews will do their best - they always do.

The following opdated information is from BBC website:

Lincolnshire has faced more disruption as further snow continued to fall across the county.
Almost 250 schools were closed for the day with many confirming they will remain shut on Friday.

Drivers are being warned to take care on roads and only travel when necessary, as temperatures are predicted to fall as low as -4C (25F).
Most main roads are passable but there are problems on some routes from snow and broken down vehicles.
The A151 in Grimsthorpe, the A46 at Lincoln and the A52 at Grantham have all seen problems.
Some communities are virtually inaccessible by car.
The severe weather has led to the cancellation of some East Midlands Trains services or forced the introduction of revised timetables while Stagecoach buses are also affected.

Officials said they had already spread thousands of tonnes of grit on roads in an effort to keep them usable.

The Met Office has predicted less snow in Lincolnshire on Friday but temperatures will stay below freezing throughout the day.

I'm sure TBF would be only too willing to discuss these issues with a representative of RTC, either here or privately.

Darlington Station announcer - "We do apologise for the late arrival of your train to Lincoln. You will now be taken on an 80 mile round-trip in the opposite direction." Extra Class 57 mileage for those who like that sort of thing, I suppose.

Well if Lincoln is such a dangerous place to get to, maybe it'll end up as just a circular steam railtour of whatever lines are open and whatever paths they can get, with a visit to the NRM thrown in!

I guess the York Xmas Market is on, so that might be a consolation for those folks who actually booked in order to go to the Lincoln market.

I had a phone call from my Grandad who was on York station and said the train had left at 13:35 and was heading for Castleford, Wakefield, Leeds and back to York followed by the trip back north.

It's a difficult call. On balance, I think RTC are to be applauded for running today's excursion in some form.

My thoughts are with the support crew, prepping and disposing the loco early this morning and late tonight...

I would applaud RTC IF I thought it was an attempt to run the train for the correct reasons rather than a cynical device to avoid having to refund passengers their fare! (I must confess that having had to put up with some of this characters attempts to manipulate situations in the past I make TBF look like his No. 1 fan!)

Went away from Wakefield about 14:30. I was stood at Hare Park waiting for a 47 (which i didn't see either!) on ECS.

Any ideas if it has gone back to Newcastle straight away?
