Exactly. Doesn't the GCR have a black 8F too? There's really no reason why 8624 needs to go into black. As has been pointed out plenty of times the current livery is probably the most public-friendly of any livery so the boring purists should find better things to do with their time than whinge about the colour of paint.

Perhaps the public-friendliness should be taken a stage further and the loco repainted as 'Henry the Green Engine' :)

How much longer is this thread going to drone on about the bloody livery of this engine? Mods please act.

There's nothing wrong with a lively debate.
There are other threads to read you know.

probably until they paint it accurately, at which point the few that have been going on about how "great" it looks in a stupid livery would wake up and smell the coffee.

There is when it goes on & on & on & on & on & on. Most of the other threads contain livery debates as well.

I saw it yesterday on the CVR it looked great with the maroon coaches, it was on on education day and all the youngsters were thrilled with it. This must make an impression on them as a day to remember being pulled by a big red shiny engine and perhaps they will come back with their parents to see it again. This is what heritage railways are all about, get the youngsters interested, no matter the colour of the engine if its big and shiny they will be happy just to see it.

Once again the answer is, did you dig into your pocket to help fund the rebuild and subsequent paint job, if the answer is no, then as with all paint jobs that don't meet with your approval, Tough. You have no grounds for complaint.

Why do I get the felling every "paint it black" comment pushes the day that might happen further away?

Hear, hear! Incidentally is anyone going to post some pics of it at Churnet?

I did hear that the problem with the tender axleboxes running hot was at least in part due to the 'mops' not picking up enough oil.

Who pays most railways bills?? The average jo public or the tight fisted, ill bring my own flask of tea so i dont have to spend money, take pictures on the station and leave enthusiast. Then who ever pays the most chooses the colour.

Gav106, I'm sure there are some of them about, but most enthusiasts do appreciate what the heritage railways are about and do put their hands in their pockets to keep their hobby going.Cheers.

Can't help feeling come December it will be pulling Santa Specials as Santas big red engine

Seriously though how about a poll as to who wants it to stay red and who wants to see it painted black
