Storming performance from 60019 up Grantshouse, followed it all the way along the A1 and it must've done most of the climb at close to maximum permitted speed. Unfortunately, it also left behind several lineside fires and resulted in the ECML being closed for around an hour. Gen from scot-rail is that 45407 will work the tour south due to the number of fires set off by the A4.

A Class 5 taking on a Class 8 job. Should be interesting. Can't quite see the logic myself.

Because the class 5 has a spark arrester that works, and the sharp pointy thing doesn't?

But whether the class 5 spark arrester can cope with the loco being worked very hard indeed to make up for the power loss could be another matter!

Will 45407 be double heading the return ? maybe thats the plan will be restricted to 60mph so timings will be longer. Just a thought...

45407 will not be double-heading with 60019; it will be going to FW, on Monday, as stand-in for 62005, which, in turn, will now not be going to FW until next w/e, at the earliest.

Once again, don't believe all the gossip you read on gen groups!

Thanks for bringing clarity to the topic John. Thought my comment would do the trick.

    Got a new Moniker John???

Privatised Britain performed to perfection and a leisurely tour of the Northumbrian Coast with mr "Tyne Turbine" after No 19 stormed by resulted in missing everything southwards - cue a chauffeur driven return to the buffet bar and then him driving back to Newcastle, confirming his safe arrival at 04.27

What would we do without our friends?? - but we managed to deal with a deal of PSPS business whilst on the road!

Bamburgh Castle positively glowing in the evening sun was well worth it though!

Anyone able to translate this sentance? Jetblast??? PPrune??? Is there a link?

Would also be interested to know if 60019 is taking the return leg solo tomorrow or if it's going to have a 47 tucked inside, up front, or on the rear? Cracking day again today with the 5. Ran well to time or early whenever I saw it, with a pleasant double rainbow pic to finish the day.

it better not tuck a 47 inside i for one would not be a happy bunny after paying some £1,2000 plus for a weekend of steam off to get breakfast then off to station to pick up train for some 380 odd miles of steam,

Today's return leg was mentioned on BBC Radio Scotland 8.00 o'clock news this morning, advising those air passengers delayed by the ash cloud closing Scottish Airports that there were still a few seats left on the steam hauled service to Kings Cross! Oh, and something else about Virgin putting on some additional trains as well.

Thanks, and nice pics TBird! You did well to get the clag leaving Berwick, as there wasn't a great deal about. Looked good this morning speeding through East Lothian in the sunshine. Possibly a few minutes early.

Is the chopper still following you today? Also, do you know whether the 47 will stay all day, or only as far as York (where 6233 takes over)?
