This is a sell out trip organised by RTC. Diesel hauled from Leicester to Crewe where Oliver Cromwell takes over. Departure from Crewe is 09.19 stopping at Preston at 10.21 and after the promise of a speedy run over Shap, into Carlisle at 12.41. Return is via S&C departing Carlise at 15.35. Oliver comes off again at Crewe at 21.03. All seats have sold out so this has proved a really attractive tour - captures the imagination with a great round trip covering two iconic routes.

point taken Ralph... or could auction my two premiere dining seats....
Thanks but no thanks, I am already doing Prem Dining on the 'Help for Heroes', and even a man of my means can only manage three of those a year, and the problem is which ones.. .:confused1:

Actually I was really surprised to see on the website that this had sold outso quickly. A good sign for the rail tour industry early in the year though and hope the businesses have as good a year as 2009.

I put the details and times up for the benefit of the linesiding community as I reckon their are going to be some really good opportunities.

I am booked on this after transferring my booking from the double black fives in December owing to being snowed in! I am looking forward to it greatly as it will be my first run behind a Brit on the mainline and I was impressed by her when she visited the SVR, particularly her volume! This is Ollies first run over Shap with a load so this probably has aided the selling of seats.

As per original plan, this tour becomes steam hauled from Crewe departing 09.19. However a change of plan means that the train will take a circular tour with 70013 coming off at Preston on the return leg, arriving 19.29. Tour will then be diseasal hauled back to Leicester. 70013 then proceeds to Carnforth.

I will be out to see this somewhere near Leyland I think then chase up to somewhere near Shap before coming back to work the late shift.

    Hi guys,

Looking for a bit of help from someone who knows more about Shap here....on Google Maps/Earth,is the Green bridge at Shap Summit (in the cutting) a public footpath???

If not,how do people get that summit shot, where the stone wall is??

    Thanks in advance,
    Mark

    Do you mean here http://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?...archp=ids.srf&dn=830&ax=357420&ay=510795&lm=0
Not been myself but judging by the all marked footpaths, it must be a footbridge. Just realised that if you go to that map page then zoom in to 1:25000 it is marked as FB.

I've not been there Mark but if it's THIS one then the red dotted line means it's a public footpath.

    Ralph's gazumped me!

    Hey Mark,

I've been to that location, if you basically follow the footpath from the road towards the west, you can quite easily see where people have walked, you will come to the green bridge. I found that on top of the bridge is no good as the bridge rails were a bit too high. Cross the bridge, and carry on to your right and you will come into a field which is where most people stand. I've attached a photo from the Duchess last year when I was up there, but we've removed all the mainline footage from 2009 so can't show you the video clip.

I'm sure there will be many others up tomorrow Mark so i'm sure you won't get lost...

Running a couple of mins early at farrington junction - (camera setting wrong & completely missed the shot). A fast dash up the M61/M6/M55/A6 to Brock and arrived with a minute to spare and again it past me like a rocket - or a roaring monster as the headboard stated'

    http://john-robinson.fotopic.net/p63787212.html

Running like this i expect it being early over the s & c
