Here are some photos by my dad,Alan Walker during the closing months of 1967,they depict the sorry state of steam in this period as it was gradually phased out, until in November, around 125 years of continuous steam operation ended with the dawn of the First Generation diesel classes.

Many of these photos are taken in the Wakefield area with numerous shots of Normanton MPD,Wakefield MPD and trains passing Featherstone, other locations covered are Leeds,Carlisle and Skipton amongst others.

Please, enjoy and post any comments you wish,i will pass them on,this has taken me around 7 hours to scan, upload and caption so they are very much appreciated, get ready for 1968 tomorrow!

Some of the more momentous days are covered, including the last day of steam operation on Normanton MPD (by locos based there),the penultimate day of E.R steam in West York's and Normanton's final day as an MPD for servicing steam,31/12/67.

Some good stuff among those for someone who was there during that summer - me!
Just one thing; img146.jpg is actually at Skipton. The 10:17 Glasgow went in the back platform there, usually took water and was booked to let the 10:20 from Leeds overtake.
