Hello all. I have been following this thread and the one before, for sometime. I have to say it's always the same people who write in. Settle your differences and move on, yes, but at what price ? The whole story needs to be aired in public, with no secret going ons behind closed doors. The FR has a lot to awnser for, it's time for a clean slate. I also find it a great shame that those who critic the FR are not better treated on this and other forums, nothing is worse than a world full of yes men. How pityfull you all seem. Life long NG supporter.

What is there to look into? Either they have matching IP addresses or they do not.

If only we could extract some DNA, the perpetrators could then be hunted down and fogged for daring to question the FRC Order!

If Renovater was allowed on this forum i am sure he would like to know what he has done wrong apart from being against the WHR/FR. Everything he wrote had a ring of truth, he was too far ahead of his time. What a loss !! Was there really any need to kick him off ?

This is getting rediculous. Someone asked why there isnt a general WHR thread - well here's your answer: trolling. It seems its become impossible to have a thread without people with an axe to grind starting up multiple accounts, talking of conspiracy theories and the like. If people want a serious debate with people in the know from both railways there are multiple e-groups and a forum which are much more informative.

(btw hello Peter - i see you've recently joined, only posted a handful of times, and they are all about the WHR. Its surprising how many people on this thread fit that description!)

Please don’t patronise me Christopher, I shall post when I like on whatever subject I like no matter how much you approve or disapprove for the simple reason that unlike many I have not signed up to the ridicules gagging order.

Maybe one of those "in the know" can explain what the actual financial benefits to the WHR/FR will be of the WHR running into Portmadoc?
At the moment they are very definetly 2 distinct railways. A punter turning up at Harbour station wanting a train ride has only one option to travel on. If and when the WHR is running out of Harbour he may have to decide between Blaenau or Beddgelert as a potential destination. Me thinks the majority will choose Beddgelert. Down go passenger figures on the FR like the proverbial lead ballon!
I`m guessing here, but I think the way things are at the moment might suit the FR/WHR just fine. They`ve satisfied the conditions of not running through Aberglaslyn till the railway is physically complete, but I bet it didn`t say anything in the conditions that they had to run trains to Portmadoc once they`d layed all the railway.
Other than the occasional special and stock movements I am really struggling to find a reason for running trains to Portmadoc. Maybe someone can enlighten me.

im loath to join in here given some of the posts but I quite like the idea of there being a break in continuity on the line, passengers could walk from one side of the crossing to another train at the other side, Kind of authentic Id say.

As for "relations" I dont think any amount of discussion here will change things...lets instead try to persuade the two sides to keep talking directly to each other

Well, one reason would be that we'd have a railway that went from somewhere to somewhere else, rather than just a ride to the end of the line and back like practically every other heritage railway. And I include the FR in that, I'm afraid - how many people get off at Blaenau and spend the day there?

Having said that, FR traffic is up substantially this year despite the WHR trains being packed. The two railways have entirely different characters and most people will want to travel on both and take in the WHHR as well.

And we'd deliver punters to our shop and pub at Harbour and get more money off them.

And until the Cob gets widened, only one FR or WHR train can be at Harbour at a time, meaning when punters turn up they can get whichever train happens to be there at the time. The revenue goes to the same bank account whichever train they take.

And the railway between Hafod y Llyn and Pont Croesor has the best views anywhere on the FR/WHR system.

And what would be the point of having a complete railway and not using it? It cost a million quid a mile, you know.

    Hope this helps.

I have to agree with both in part in that as Triassc says presently I do not see an over whelming business case for runing into Port in the short term. It will cost a load of more money to do so properly and passenger figures would seem to indicate that presently the current operation is working fine and attracting the paying punter. Yes the figures might be better if trains ran through to Port, but they might not be and as presently the FR/WHR appears to be at capacity in terms of rolling stock it would appear that it may not have the resources to accomodate substantially larger numbers anyway.

I also agree with Andrew that just stopping in a middle of a field for a few minutes whilst the loco runs round is not a long term position. However I would have thought it is perfectly viable for 2 or 3 more seasons.

I do think that Andrew is being slightly over optimistic if he truely believes that most people will want to ride all three. Enthusiasts maybe but for the average Joe Public family of 2+ 2 that is basically 2 and a half days of your six full days holiday if you have booked a week and over a hundred quid riding on trains. It would be great if Andrew is right but in my heart I doubt it.

In respect of the letter I have not seen it and I have no real wish to, I just wish like in any long running dispute both parties would bite their tounges a bit especially in public as whilst watching others wash their dirty linen in public maybe interesting it does not really move things forward. I also realise it can be very hard to do. If a bit of diplomacy on all sides helps moves matters forward then great as I am sure all the majority want is to see the line fully opened with a range of trains running along it, ancient, modern and historic.

Having said I have no real interest in the letter there is one matter I would like to know and that is roughly how much more funding is needed to "complete" the railway. By that i mean it running regularly to Port, not running to Port and new buildings a Beddgelert, Caernarfon etc. If anybody has a figure could they also say whether it is presumming the Welsh Assemby or whoever "owes" the disputed amout for the bridge work pays up?

I'd much rather the views from the cob or down on to Maentwrog or accross Llyn Ystrydau anyday.

Thanks for the answer Andrew. It still appears to me, especially with lostlogins comments regarding stock etc too, there seems little business advantage in getting to Portmadoc in a huge rush. A better business investment in the short term rather than invest in finishing the signalling etc would I would have thought to get some facilities at Beddgelert there by relieving Joe Public of some more of his hard earned...
