Firstly I feel that 31st December 2010 is a too nicely rounded date. Secondly IF that is the length of time thats being given for the Duchess' display could running be on the cards again after that ?

    Two things spring to mind

what price the LNER beavertail being completed in original condition in time to join 4468 during the exhibition.

I don't think and LMS coronation stock survived but were some ordinary satnier coaches painted in Streamlined livery and is there a carriage that could be cosmetically repainted to match 46229 ?

I really enjoy the conjecture as to how long 6229 might be on public display and what it might or might not be exhibited with, however, on this forum there are individuals associated, some very closely associated, with the National Railway Museum, Tyseley, UKsteam.info, so I ask the question again :-

.... how is it [6229] going to ( or how has it already got to ) the NRM ?

I really would rather prefer an answer to the question now, rather than having to pursue why no answer was forthcoming when I will be at York for the unveiling next week.

Not some modern resurrection of the 'D notice' I hope.

It may well be that the NRM, along with the BRM, and the owner of UKSteam.info do not wish the public to know where and with what the loco will be displayed and how it will get or has got to York. If this is the case then why not wait for an official announcement from York...

I suspect that you have answered your own question with the final line!

Nice idea chap, and relevant to today, as trains still have those go faster stripes.

As I understand it, those people are on this forum in a private capacity and they therefore have no obligation to answer your question - whether they are able to or not.

I'm sure you didn't mean it to, but your question comes across as rather demanding and critical that someone hasn't answered you. This forum is NOT an official publicity outlet of the NRM/Tyseley etc - if you have questions for these organisations, can I suggest that you contact them directly through their own websites/phoning/writing.

Returning the question of if and when to restore 6229 to mainline condition... The NRM has quite a few mainline locos at the moment: 70013 and 777 operational now, with 850 coming back later this year and 4472 before very long. I suspect that four is more than enough for them.

According to UKsteam, 6229 should be moving to the NRM by rail today, pulled by a diesel (shame it's not 5043, in the end). In fact, she should should be setting out as I type this. So, is anyone venturing out into the rain to see her?

According to UK Steam the move is Saturday but the date is still showing 15th May which is today, so which is correct? 5043 would not be doing it today as its with 5029 on Saturday on the Welsh Marches.

Interesting. The "Mainline Steam Loco Movements" list says "Fri 15-May" for the move. Which is the typo? Maybe we should PM GWR4090, Anthony C or Bob M...

I can't see they'll let her out uncovered for us all to see given the high profile launch at York , and for the same reason i'm almost expecting her to be taken up under the cover of darkness !!

6229 (or at least her tender) was still in the shed at Tyseley last night. Still no signs on UKSteam as to when this move is likely to happen.

I personally feel that the Streamlining is a great idea, however I do feel that not overhauling the loco at the same time as doing the streamlining was a big mistake. If they need to do a a boiler lift for example, they'll need to remove the streamlined casing first.
