What a load of old bow locks!

Both of the Bullieds along with the M7 are going to Eastleigh.
80104 is not even at Swanage (away for repairs) and then that will leave 6696 + 80078 to cover the 2 train working over that weekend.

So no. 80078 cannot be going to the MHR!

Neither Bullieds will be going but I suspect both BULLEIDS will be.
Is Bulleid the most often misspelt CME's name?

I wonder if it could possibly be the N7 which is currently visiting the MId Norfolk Railway?
I know this is another speculative stab in the dark but it's worth the guess as I think she has never visited the Mid Hants yet

Yeah thats what my dad has deducted it to, would be interesting to see on southern metals. Whatever the loco is it's gonna have to be quite hefty!

The N7 would be very nice. How long is it staying at the MNR?

Whatever it is, it will need to be at least a Class 4, with decent-sized water tanks. A "large prairie" would be the right sort of thing. Or a GW 2-8-0T (52xx ??) Llangollen's 51xx was due to return to the CVR any day now, but maybe she can be spared for a few weeks?

6695 would have been nice, but as the Swanage chaps have said, they need it there with their "Southern Stars" going to Eastleigh.

If only a Urie 4-6-2T (H16?) was still around... (but then again, it would be going to Eastleigh, too!)

Someone is putting a rumor around that it could be a GWR tank engine from Crewe. But like I say it's a rumor.

What about the Fairburn tank currently at GCR? Now that would be something!

I wasn't aware of there being a working GW tank engine at Crewe! 5224 is supposedly undergoing retyring and their 66xx was way off last time I heard - and even if it is just finished the Mid Hants would be an unusual choice of location to run it in.

How about a pannier from Tyseley?

Ah but has the N7 been "over the alps"? I'm not sure on the range of the N7 tanks but it would be worth another visit to the mid hants if she did arrive

I too feit that 5526 would be a good bet.

Alternatively I thought 80098 could substitute?

Or 2 40:1 outsiders could be 30075 or 6619? I'm unsure if either have visited the MHR before, please don't shoot me down if they have!

And at Swanage in both 1990 and 1999 (I think).

I think 30075 has been, not sure about 6619.

80098 is either nearing the end of her ticket or is out of ticket now, as she isn't attending the MRB's 1960's gala i would have thought she may be the latter, as she would be a good choice for it.

I'm not sure if the MHR means the tank will be a new class of loco to the mhr, or new loco in general. For some reason i think it may be class, if that is the case it should rule out the Small Prairies and Standard 4 tanks.

I still think the N7 could be a possibility, although the NNR site still say she will be back during early May, they won't massively need her when they have the J15, WD & Ring Haw. Would suit me fine if she did go to the MHR, i'm planning to go to the NNR next saturday and each of my 6 visits to the line (one dating back 2005) she has been running. As much as i love the loco, i'd like to see something different running for a change!

What other class of locos are there out there in black that havent been to the MHR that could be a possibility? (excluding the other suggestion of the fairburn)

The post on the MHR site just says that an engine new to the MHR is due to arrive next week - I don't think it says that it is a gala visitor arriving, so it could be a new long term resident and not necessarily in working order atm. Chew on that!
