Thanks for the photo, 32678 will look superb in lined black when paired with the red Birdcage Brake.

    This Gala looks great!!!

This will be my first visit to the K&ESR, and I hope to attend using public transport.

Can anyone provide details of a good bus service to get me from Headcorn to Tenterden on the Saturday?

    Many Thanks in advance.

Try http://www.arrivabus.co.uk/uploadedfile ... 150309.pdf and get off at The Vine in Tenterden, you will be at the top of Station Road.

By the way - if you get the chance to go into the C&W works during the gala - have a look at the progress being made on the GWR railcar. The team are doing a great job on it and it was a pleasure to chat to them last Sunday.

    Regards,

    Dan

If you come on the Sunday or Monday there is a FREE bus service with vintage vehicles between Headcorn & Tenterden.
Details of the vehicles being used "should" be on the website within the next day or two.

Knowle (32768) will be hauling the birdcage on the Monday working the 09:30 Tenterden - Bodiam (With some wagons) and 10:50 Bodiam - Tenterden. BOOK EARLY!!! as there is, obviously, restricted seating on this train.
See the KESR website (www.kesr.org.uk) to book.

Don't forget that on Sunday 3rd May and/or Monday 4th May you have the opportunity to ride on goods trains hauled or banked by the SECR 01, LBSCR Terrier 'Knowle', LBSCR Terrier 'Martello', SECR P 753, BTH 'Ford' diesel and BR 03 D2023. The chance to travel on a goods train behind the 01 may never be repeated on the K&ESR. The 14.35 ex Tenterden on Sunday, hauled by the 01 was to have two brake vans but now has one to reduce the load so hurry if you want to book. Details of what van rides are on offer can be found at http://www.kesr.org.uk/special-events/k ... ekend.html

The publicity on the railway's own website for the gala makes me want to pay a visit, but the feature on it in the Steam Beano gave me second thoughts - re-numbering of 32678 with false identities and HEADBOARDS!

Please, please someone from the K&ESR tell me that Steam Railway have got their facts wrong, or at least that there will be one headboard-free day (or at least that the headboards will be confined to one or two recreations of the last trains) and where 32678 will be running with its proper identity.

The engine will run as 32678 for Saturday and will be headboard free (with the exception of when it leads the cavalcade at 09:20 from Rolvenden). It will be renumbered during the Sunday and will be headboard free, and will only carry the relevent headboards on the Monday when it is working the recreation trains. On Monday it will only be renumbered when required for part of the recreation trains and will run as itself the rest of the time.

Hopefully this information will make you want to change your mind and visit our gala, which promises to be a great 3 days!

    James Palk,

    Gala Event Committee

The 01 arrived at Wittersham Rd today, well at least the front bit did! The tender is due to arrive this evening. Martello is due to arrive on Sunday. It's all looking good for a great gala! Let's hope the weather stays like this and that lots of you turn up to enjoy it.

I expect that engines will face towards Tenterden, because of the bank from Rolvenden, but can anyone please confirm? I'm about to order my rover tickets - only question is 2 days or 3!

'P' is running bunker first to Tenterden on normal services anyway. No 3 is being turned before the gala. I'm sure conebasher can tell us about 'Martello'. It doesn't make a great deal of difference to crews which way locos face, except that if you arrive at Tenterden a bit low on water and you are bunker first it will rise in the glass as you enter the station.
