How much difference is there between the adhesion weights of a Jubilee and a Castle? Provided the Jubilee can avoid slipping, less available power from the cylinders should only result in lower speed, not a stall.

And that begs the question. So in an indirect way from the TOC, and that's unusual but welcome, it has been established that the trip will run as everyone would hope but more importantly, as per normal arrangements over the Devon Banks.

I'm not booked on this but I do feel for those who had booked and might have been worrying about what would happen like @1020 Shireman, for example.. It doesn't affect me but presumably the information that went out to the paying public didn't make clear that the diesels would come off at Bristol, go back on at Taunton, and the train would run with unassisted steam.

All a bit sad really but at least the unofficial grapevine got there in the end and most importantly, the passengers have been reassured. I hope it goes well.

I would suggest that one of the 3 standard coaches is the brake on this occasion.

Seriously - it seems like a lot of unnecessary froth has been generated because people who weren't in possession of the facts jumped to the wrong conclusion.

That is what was said the letter to passengers stated back at post#2. Standard being the buffet, half brake and a TSO. Which to my mind makes the buffet coach F and the TSO coach G.
8 passenger coaches (or 7.5 to be pedantic), a kitchen and POB. Of course that makes 10 and does not quite align with what the man who should know if he is the return guard said in post #42.
I did once steward a Bristol Weymouth where the POB was used in place of a half brake brake, but there was of course no diesel only legs on that.

Still without the froth there would not be much to read on here would there?

I think that's the point really, on Monday 5 days before the run "things aren't 100% finalised", ultimately Network Rail and the TOC have to come to an agreement or the train can't run, the Tour Operators, support crew and passengers don't know anything for definite until things are finalised......
Even then events can and do change at the last minute... BIL last weekend etc Crystal ball anyone ??

11 early Plymouth and 19 early at one point. Held up by a XC! Is there anything this loco can’t do?

So there I am Working my dog at Exeter dog show, when Bahamas comes storming past at a fair old lick. Spooked the dog. Must be the only time I have not been pleased to see a steam loco.

A solution nobody here had contemplated. Well done to whichever of the authorities came up with that solution to keep the train to the required length
