45699 Galatea heading south through Brock with 5V42, on the front is the number 45627, the name on the side says Sierra Leone and the cab side number is 45562.
I was hoping for another name this year...

Suffering something of an identity crisis, LMS Jubilee class 4-6-0 No. 45699 Galatea, runs through Hartford (some 25 minutes late) while a positioning move from Carnforth to Southall.

Great to see 45699 back. Wonder what its long term identity will be?

Past the Watford Railcam a few minutes ago. What is normally a busy stretch of line is practically deserted today.

Galatea / Alberta / Sierra Leone ? passing Millmeece on it's way south this morning, a remarkably quick turnaround for a loco that last worked before overhaul on 6th March last year.
When did a Jubilee last head south on the up fast ?.
A late departure from Crewe meant the working passed me under the thickest cloud around, but as Ralph says the WCML was devoid of any traffic other than freights.

I don't remember steam via Weedon since the 1960s on the WCML, 45699 nears Stowe Hill Tunnel.

No 9 with Bill Warriner driving on a diverted Chester Euston trip caused by a broken down freight on the Northampton Loop. June 6 2013. Seem to remember control must have told him "to get a move on". Could be a more recent event though.

Don't remind me. I went to Daventry to phot it, but I had considered seeing if Les would've done me a single ticket from Rugby to Euston but the weather was nice and going via Northampton is usually a bit of a trundle. I heard a whistle but no sign of it, for obvious reasons!

Has she had a repaint or is it the original cladding reapplied?

May have been a strike day but London Overground still managed to time one of their services perfectly with the 40 minute late Jubilee nearly blocking the shot entirely! A bit of photo trickery hides the unit in question. 45627 (or whatever people prefer) passing Headstone Lane:

No repaint - just touched in, where needed.

I'm very surprised, by the way, that no one has complained, yet, about the diesel on the rear (which was running, in order to maintain the brake).

Made it have more to pull! Not that diesels on the rear bother me as much as some, but if it's there to maintain the brake does that mean the loco requires a diesel on the rear of all of it's trips?

Er, no. It’s to maintain the 47’s own brake, when the train is vacuum-braked.

To clarify I hear this was a light engine and also a test run. Think that was a good strategy(plan).

had hoped for LMS Crimson, cosmetic change can happen later.
