Mate I thought you were born the right side of the border? Quinton is disputable territory though! :)

I would assume they used the same road haulage operation that WCRC use which seems to be able to spirit 100 ton lumps of metal in and out of Carnforth by road on a pretty regular basis without anyone noticing, the best example being 4920 which appears to have been spirited away to Japan without any photographs being snatched.

I don’t think so, it was a firm from Biggleswade.

According to Trackside Magazine the Pullman trains on both the 10th and 16th December are rostered for Black 5 44871.

There is also hope from the MNLPS that Clan Line will get a new 7 year ticket.

Personally I'm sick of the ubiquity of the show but I make an exception for Leaky Finders because I can forgive a lot for an undeniably great pun.

Correct me if I'm wrong but 35028 doesn't do a lot of heritage line work, does it? So the 7-year mainline ticket is really the key one.

Been more updates from the MNLPS on the work at Devon. Waiting on a lot of stuff from their suppliers, and in their words are "waiting their turn" in the queue for it to arrive. The diary dates page has gone from the website, so looks like it'll be a long while yet before she's out and about again. Belmond might be having a rather long steamless period. Best wishes to all involved for the work required.

I think it's worth pointing out that they're not sitting around kicking their heels waiting for parts to arrive. They're cracking on with boiler tube and superheater element replacement, as well as changing several hundred firebox stays.

Such as...? 60163 6 months away from being ready, 34067 unlikely, 60103 no chance, 60007 has a full programme coming up after its repaint. Another from the LSL stable at a push? Other than that, I can't think of any other air braked class 7/8 that could be used.

You are right, the Duchess worked the last Bristol Belmond but it’s out of gauge for the Kent circuit. The positive thing is that the team are focussed on getting 28 back in service as soon as possible. It involves a lot of people regularly making the long journey down to Devon at no small expense to themselves.

Considering out of 28's remaining Belmond programme last year when it was withdrawn the grand total of two excursions were steam hauled (6233 on the Bristol run and 34067 on the Medway Pullman which ended up being WCRC operated), it's not looking likely Belmond will have many steam runs until 28 is back, hence my original comment.

60163 probably around May hopefully, 34067 I wish, 60103 almost impossible but I wish could happen, 60007 they did say they would occasionally do tours with others. If 35028 is out for let’s say another year 6024 or even 71000 could become available and those are definitely going to be DB registered. I do agree that the first half unless 35028 is available doesn’t look good.

I should point out from previous experience (850) that making one off moulds for pressing boiler components is an expensive business.
I'm sure that MNLPS will welcome any donations towards the repairs.

    Cheers, Neil

That update on the MNLPS site comes over as a major piece of work that is probably going to benefit from it taking place at a boiler works rather than up in London even though the accommodation at Stewarts Lane is brilliant.

So through a combination of different events, several of the main line 'big hitters' have been out of action recently. That must have an impact on the charter market in 2023. Time will tell how the year settles down.

There’s still a lot of work going on at Stewart’s Lane too.
