That was my understanding at the time too - I think that was why the DPS binned the train heat boilers on their Deltics; it cleared enough space to fit the ETCS kit and then some.

How big is the modern iteration of this equipment and does it fit in a 19" rack?

Surely must be possible to dispense most of it to an under counter fridge? Can't imagine it needs a whole server cabinet these days. Famous last words though.

I would imagine that would be the end destination, unless the plan is to fit the mainline equipment at Southall, give her a l/e test run, followed by a loaded test on a circuit and keep her at Southall, give her some tours, to earn some money, and only send her up to Carnforth when she needs major attention. what routes could a class 4 mogul be used for out of Victoria, ?

Would she not be useful on a West Coast rival to something like the Windsor Steam Express based out of London?

Well at least the move to Southall gives a clearer indication of the the new ownership....I think.

Your video on page 1 of this thread is very interesting. When the loco departed tender-first from Medstead, it bore a headboard featuring the words"Excalibur Express." I have never heard of any heritage line or main line steam working using this name. Maybe something new is in the offing. It is certainly hard to think if any other reason for putting this headboard on the smokebox of an LE movement, especially when it was marshalled behind the class 33 on the main line. (It arrived from Ropley headboard-less) Of course, I may be putting two and two together and making five, but this observation might offer some corroboration to your theory. It will be interesting to observe whether this enigmatic headboard reappears for the LE Movement to Southall next week.

Yes it was, his Wessex trains used it regularly as a brand name for their tours.

Is the loco moving today, because the path has been activated from East Grinstead to Southall.
