TM Les just advised that the fire was reportedly there before we passed through, not after.

Saw it from Coach A (back of train). A mile north of Bincombe. Would have been a remarkably quick spread if 45596 was responsible. .....

33 currently trying to get us up the hill on the return. Message overheard to 45596 driver, "just take your own weight."

The DCE passing through (the architecturally depressing) Wool Station running 18 late at this point.
Cannot add much to the lineside fire other than the preceding SWR unit lost another 13 minutes to its already late arrival at Bournemouth, so may have been some issue. All delays, short turns and cancellations seem to be after the tour arrival.
1W22 is the strangest one, left Weymouth on time, Upwey 37 late and was 78 late at Dorchester Junction which seems to imply the fire may have restarted or suddenly got a lot worse if they were happy for it to depart Upwey. Service terminated at Bournemouth eventually 76 late.

Just seen the rescheduled DCE on Sept 15 (due to being a strike day back in August) has now ended up on another strike day based on the RMT announcement today.

Well it would need notch something as asking a Class 33 to push 11 coaches plus a Jubilee up to Bincombe might be a big ask!

It was producing a fair exhaust pushing the tour away from Wool on the way down.
From my experience of a single 33 (D6515) on the DCE when the 47 would not start, the noise was exceptional and Pete Roberts had (I think No 9 without checking) on a little more than "notch 1" on the back.

Les has just announced the 33 has failed, so todays train will terminate at Clapham Jn. So no diesel assistance from Basingstoke

Does anyone else have a sense of "deja vu" here? I think it's the same 33 that failed on the Cotswold Venturer last Saturday (33025).

I think the diesels need steam assistance, not the other way round. Anyway back at Southall the naughty diseasal will be sent to the back of the shed by a very angry Fat Controller!

The same thing happened on the 9th July 2016 when 45699 had to give the Class 33 a shove out of Weymouth. I travelled on this trip and was wondering like many other passengers if we would make it up the bank as the Class 33 was really struggling. Fortunately Galatea was in very good form that day and made up some time on the Basingstoke to Woking section with a very spirited run from the crew.

Looks like DCE tour caped at Clapham Junction with train going direct to Southall WCRC as 5Z85.
Going through Imperial Wharf station according to Open Train Times map.

There was no option as the loco on the back has failed so couldn’t haul them out of Victoria

It used to be March Up platform for quite a few steam locos.

    Cheers, Neil
