Lovely weather for D6732's 60th birthday on Saturday. Took advantage of the tree & vegetation clearance that has been done on Kelling Heath to get some photos from the lineside. More pictures on my flickr, also of Black Prince which was hauling the steam services: https://www.flickr.com/photos/djcs_trains/

The M&GN Society have announced they have purchased another carriage, to have a fast-tracked restoration, to become the final member of the planned 5-coach LNER Mainline set restored to 1950's condition:

Good work on the various carriages and wagons! Looking forward to seeing some of them later this year.

A series of (completely coincidental) planets aligning has led to volunteer wagon progress to shoot through the roof this year.

The tangible result of this is that this year we ran the longest freight train in the NNR's 50+ year history. There's never been more vehicles available for traffic. Whilst no promises can be made for the future, for now at least it's a golden age for freight!

If anyone has ever been interested in the (now unique) 1920's Gresley articulation arrangement that is present, buried deep in between the close coupled coaches of the Quad-Art set, then this week's C&W update will be of interest, as we successfully split the set in half for the first time since they were restored. This was to swap out some wheelsets, and proved a fascinating task for all involved.

    Gala postponed until October.

FIRE RISK – GALA POSTPONED TO SATURDAY 8 & SUNDAY 9 OCTOBER

Although we have resumed operating steam trains, a number of precautions are still in place including limiting the size of trains so engines do not work hard a emit sparks from the chimney, running at reduced speed if necessary and carrying out regular reviews in the event of high temperatures or dry weather.

This means that whilst it is possible to operate our standard services, we cannot be certain the the right conditions will prevail to enable an intensive timetable to operate as planned. The gala programme was to feature “non-stop expresses” and non-passenger services run purely for demonstration and removing these would remove much of the very essence of our Galas.

Accordingly, we have taken the difficult decision to postpone the Gala and rearrange it for Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 October and will collaborate with the M&GNJR Society to incorporate their Members’ Day into a weekend long showcase and celebration of the M&GN and NNR. See www.nnrailway.co.uk/autumn-gala/ Further details will be posted as soon as they are available.

Visiting GWR locomotive No. 4270 is one of the locomotives scheduled to operate our revised timetable over the Bank Holiday Weekend – 27, 28 & 29 August - https://www.nnrailway.co.uk/bank-hol/. The engine is also due to run at the Steam Back To The Forties event on 17 and 18 September - see www.nnrailway.co.uk/steam-back-to-the-forties/

Passengers who have purchased advance tickets for the Bank Holiday Gala should see www.nnrailway.co.uk/summer-gala/ for options.

It is still advertising 6 locos in steam, is there any plans for another visitor? I think 43106 is alive and kicking.

Look carefully, it reads 6 "locos in action". Following the postponement of the gala it has now taken the slot of the railway's and M&GN society's members weekend.

I may be putting two and two together and making five, however the Society owned Class 31 diesel is usually used on members weekend, so that "may" be your sixth engine...

43106 may still be alive and kicking, but just because it has a 31B shedcode plate on its smokebox door doesn't necessarily mean it’s still working off South Lynn shed.
