Our 2 programmes arrived today, with the supplement including the loco roster changes.

Can I add what an excellent quality production it is, lots of information as well as having a quality feel. Top marks!

Yes the Programme is very good, better than the old black and white ones, but I feel the WTTs are worse than what the black and white's had.

This year's doesn't have coach sets on it, or the light loco moves for the Williton spare, why isn't this so? Could this be improved upon for the ASG?

It a fab gala don't get me wrong, but I am suprised at the amount of double headers, but I am still looking forward to it, roll on Saturday!

    Hi everyone,

Williton thunderbird light engine movements were not included in the programme as originally there were none, the locos were to come with the first service as pilot to Williton. For operational reasons they will now travel l/e.

    Saturday 21st - 6695 dep MD 0755
    Sunday 22nd - 3850 dep MD 0855

The Williton thunderbirds on the 2nd weekend will be diesels to allow maximum use of all steam locos.

    cheers

Keith for WSR Special Events Planning Team

  6. An unusually early start for the Quantock Belle restaurant car service on Saturday morning. The famous QB Big Breakfast will be served on departure from Bishops Lydeard at 08.25 and on the return trip departing Minehead at 10.15. A luncheon and cream tea service will commence on departure from Bishops Lydeard at 12.30, returning from Minehead at 2.05. There is no advance booking system or supplement fare; just turn up! The Quantock Belle vehicles are the BR maroon stock formed at the Paddington end of the train. For those who ask, we might even have some black pudding available on the breakfast service.......

Breakfast service timings for Sunday 22nd are 9.30 departure from Bishops Lydeard and 11.10 from Minehead. Luncheon and cream tea will be served on 1.10 departure from Bishops Lydeard and 3.00 return from Minehead.

Full details, including the menu and price list, can of course be found on http://www.wsr.org.uk

Subject to Special Events Planning Team approval, we are hoping to provide the Quantock Belle restaurant car service throughout the WSR MIxed Traffic Gala on 12th-14th June. We are also offering this service every day of the Spring Steam Gala and of the Autumn Steam Gala (1st-4th October).

Hope to see you on board at one or all of these events!

Damn my bad luck! 6100 is one of the reasons I am going to the gala and (Typical) It will not be running when I am there! I am not too fussed about the King. Although this has occured I am looking forward to the gala. Hopefully 34046 and 34028 will double head at some point over next weekend, or some type of double header as I have not seen many the past galas I have been to.

As your "name" is gwrgreen I assume you are a GW fan above every other company so why would you not be fussed about the King not appearing?
There are lots of other people who are fussed that 6024 is not appearing, people who have put many hours of work into the loco to keep it on the main line and preserved lines, I dont think your comment is very helpful and is a kick in the teeth to the people who do care. [-X

    Without giving too much info away, the 2 WCs only Double Head on the 22nd. Not many great DHs in past galas? Where have you been? To name a few over the last 2 years, ASG 08 - 34007 & 34046, 4160 & 6695, SSG 08 - 4160 & 5542, 5553 & 5542, ASG 07 - 44422 & 42968, 88 & 44422, 5553 & 3440, 6619 & 5553, SSG 07 - 7802 & 7822, 4160 & 7822, 5051 & 7802, 4160 & 5521, 9351 & 5521, 5521 & 5553, 88 & 34007 - the list is endless.

WSR probably do the most amounts of DHs at any galas - GWSR do two a day for their steam galas and the SVR do a few but between Bewdley and Kidderminster only, so think again about WSR DHs.

I do apologise to the 6024 group for my comment and any others who are annoyed by what I have said. Also I must have missed the gala days when there were those previous DH. I always manage to miss the main parts of a gala somehow. And yes I am a GW fan, but I always like to see different locos therefore I am looking forward to seeing 6695 in action.
Hope to see you all there and many apologies.

    Hiya
On www.wsr.org.uk website it says that 6100 will be on display this weekend at Bishops Lydeard; I was just wondering is it going to be over on the MPD or will it be stabled in a siding near the platform?
    Thanks

It will probably be sitting on a road trailer, as unloading in the middle of the busy BL car park in the middle of the gala wouldn't be too easy !

I see Mr Edge's site is saying there will be BL to Norton shuttles on the weekends of the gala with 5553. How is that going to work? Is it working an auto-train or top and tailing with another loco or is there now a run round loop at the Norton end?

Yeah I was thinking that. I originally thought maybe 6695 and 5553 were gonna Top and tail, but 6695 is spare on the 21st at Williton and in action on the other 3 days that the NF shuttles run. 5553 isn't autofitted and there is no autocoach coming to the gala, so what is going to happen? TnT with a diesel or shunt the coaches down/back?

I believe that this is Saturday 21st March only, not both Saturdays. According to Mr E's site, the first train off BL on 28th is 7:55, with the QB on the 9:15. The 7:55 crosses the 7:45 ex MD at WN which gets back to BL at 9:00, so it should be possible to do this then get breakfast if all of the seats haven't been taken by then!!

  19. For those who might find it helpful for the forthcoming Spring Steam Gala, I have updated the page showing a selection of photographic locations (around 45 spots) at http://www.wsr.org.uk/photospots.htm

I realise this probably isn't the best place to ask, but what are the chances of the 09.50 bus being held back by 5 mins on the Saturdays? The first FGW service from London arrives at 09.50, and if the bus was a couple of minutes late would mean people travelling from London could get the 10.25 off BL, rather than 11.25 service.
