the WSR has provided a valuable learning experience on volunteer and support organisation collaboration and management . It has also provided lessons on those who are willing to tow the company line and challenge anyone who believe a wrong has occured

Well that's a relief for everyone. If she has the skills and background needed to be general manager I am amazed that for the past four years she has put up with being a personal assistant to various people. And there I was thinking that for a line with the status of the WSR they would have been able to pick up someone from another lesser set up in a comparable role. And all the time the ideal person was within their midst.

    Onwards and upwards then...

Let's wish her the very best of fortune, and a good 2022 season. As for 9466, let's be glad that this is an addition to the available fleet to help run a reliable service. I am still unhappy about the treatment of the S&DRT, but want the WSR to survive. There are plenty of challenges for preserved steam at the best of times!

Clearly congratulations to Kerry and I look forward to her hopefully positive influence on the WSR.

Until though there is change on the board and those who have wrought such damage on Washford and also on good friends of mine I will not support the WSR in any way shape or form . Some will argue my life may be poorer but the principle and standing with my friends is far more important

But why would it need to? Assuming normal practice is resumed, you'd roster it on the MD set of 6, and the other larger locos on the longer trains.

Yet another railway to appoint a member of the fairer sex (can I say that?) to be General Manager. There are a growing number of lines that have done this. Off the top of my head:
    East Lancs Railway
    Severn Valley Railway
    Bluebell Railway
    Kirklees Light Railway/Whistlestop Valley
    Seaton Tramway
    Nene Valley Railway

I'm sure that there are more. For the avoidance of doubt, there's nothing wrong with this and I expect to see more such appointments as time goes by. Twenty years ago, it would have been almost unthinkable, though.

Agreed, and I am sure that they all have held senior posts elsewhere, gaining valuable business experience across a range of disciplines. I see for example that the GM at the Severn Valley has 20 years prior experience at director / GM level before being appointed. The post holder at the East Lancs is a former professional railwayman.

I wish the new post holder the very best. One piece of guidance I can offer is that if something doesn't smell right, stand up to it. Whatever happens, you did the right thing.

Kerry is a very competent lady, and her appointment will be due in part to the excellent job she has done as Assistant G.M.

Anyone know what the agreement with 4160 Ltd. and the WSRA is all about?

Steve, you should meet my Missus’s WI group, I really wouldn’t call any them the ‘fairer sex’ they bloody scare the crap out of me! (6ft4 and a bit of a long range tank :))
In all seriousness I wish her all the best, as others have said, don’t be bullied and don’t be scared to say no if you think something’s wrong.

I can see your face now from your reaction, you'd be the subject of a comment along the lines of 'grumpy bugger' once theyd brought their tickets. The friendly face of the WSR, you do realise without the families and kids you seem to treat with distain you'll have no train set to play on ?
When you as a family have paid £90 to travel on the train (3 adults, 2 kids) you really don't want another admission fee on top, and a 15 minute walk in a area you don't know with small children.

So does this mean that WSRA have now been given back the shares sold by the former trustees, and are now majority shareholders in 4160 ltd,
isnt there an agreement for 4160 to run on the S Devon railway? once 4561 returns to steam, it would , if both parties are in agreement, make sence for 4160 to go to WSR, and for 4561 to be SDR based,

The background to this long-running saga is of course well-known to WSRA members of yore. However, quite what the 'legalise' actually means in terms of who owns what in which organisation baffles me :) Hopefully the Association will give its members a fuller explanation in due course.
