A mate of mine was on the April 1st trip and he said the speed was in the low 90s north of Crewe.

Aha! So that's where Gresley got the design of the cod's mouth key from!

They should ditch the phone and get a proper camera.

That black looks the dog's and I thought the Duchess carried it well too.

Doesn't it just?! Adds to the pity neither of the Ivatt (modified) 8Ps survived. I've invariably liked the results when Blodge turn out a new loco in unadorned black. I really liked '30190' in lined black, too.

On the RH&DR, during Jack Howey's time, Greenly 'pacific' No.3 Southern Maid carried a light "French" grey (and smoke deflectors) for a few years. Rather attractive in several old images, it apparently went because it didn't photograph well in overcast conditions.

Unfortunately, the only image I've found online looks as if it was taken by me! :(

I too have some happy memories of Elvis, firstly I was lucky enough to have had a footplate ride on No7 at the East Lancs at the grand old of 14, then 10 years later the missus and I had a date night with him and a certain Riddles 3 cylinder pacific at the SVR (I do know how to sweep a girl off her feet;))

She previously carried Brighton Umber for a few years...one doesn't often see colour photos of that, sadly, I guess not many UK enthusiasts were using colour film in the early '50s. Another livery long overdue for a comeback, I think!:D

I've only ever seen two images of that livery and TBH couldn't remember which order the Maid carried the grey or umber in, so ta muchly for that. The Maid carried an LNER style paint job by the time I first knew the line.

I'd love to see the "Vanderbilt" tenders make a comeback on Nos.9&10 .... but that's going even further off-piste than Mr. Greenly's superb little machines! :)

A beautiful piece of art this painting!:)

Regarding the black war-time livery of A4 "Sir Nigel Gresley" I was a bit sceptic when I first heard about it but this looks splendid!

(Oups.. I have a feeling I`we just started another livery debate of A4`s:D)

    regards,
    Knut:)

Everything usually ends up in a Livery debate Knut, we now just now need to find a crowbar to get 36001 into the thread ;)
