The heavens had opened by that point. It was a very enjoyable afternoon and the volunteers and LSL were very friendly

Thankfully my phone is waterproof. My friend and I still throughly enjoyed the afternoon despite the weather. F6410940-DD76-4787-BDCC-631EE6C87759.jpeg 7B7C642A-E23D-442D-B43B-EC5F3CECB983.jpeg 70CA2B6C-E2EE-4A27-9B67-671EC8050411.jpeg E5FA2B7B-8ACB-4275-8C38-B408261DDCD6.jpeg

That semi-gloss black really sets off the lines of the locomotive.

It’s the 81st anniversary of Sir Nigel’s death in April, so it would be nice if LSL kept it in black that month as a mark of respect.

It certainly does, and here she is at Wigan NW, 1st April 1967!

Was there any sort of time frame given for a return to action?

And you're right, the Crewe set-up is impressive. The 2019 open day was fascinating and I'm very much hoping it'll be repeated. I'd imagine given all the HSTs and electrics they've acquired since then make it even more of a treat.

    Fit a Sicht!

Few things can beat a rear 3/4 view of an A4.

Cannot wait to see SNG back at 61B.

Cracking' work to all involved. There is a great deal to be proud of there.

Should move to SVR by road in a few weeks, at a guess before the line reopens for the Easter holidays to allow some mileage accumulation runs. Then mainline test run and repaint. End of May/something in June before first railtour?

I never thought plain black could look so classy! :D I know the red nameplates are not strictly authentic, but they just set it off perfectly. I really hope that we'll get the chance to see her on the SVR's teaks before she is repainted...

and if you compare the front to the latest IEP designs it proves that the LNER was well in front of design standards; who needs foreign designs when home-bred talent is available ?

Makes me want to dig out Bert Stewart’s book, amazing to think that those on the tour were allowed a a visit through the corridor tender for a high speed footplate ride! And none of this restricted to 75mph stuff too! :)

Is the talent who designed the A4 shape still available then?
