That is the problem, paperwork, as in Share ownership, Reading between the lines, when the overhaul started, the railway thought it had enough shares to ensure the loco's future to the line, now i'm guessing that information has come to light, concerning a large block of shares reportedly owned by someone, possibly Barry Eden, and a third party who might claim ownership of those shares ,

From what I can find, Richard Hedder is the owner (I'd take a punt on a large amount of that being the other 74%) but can't find any other reference to him online.

Richard Heather , he previously held share in 34016 and, 35018 along with John Bunch, ownership seemed to change , Or so we were told with 34016 becoming solely owned by JB and 35018 owned by RH he then sold it, to David Smith, but who really owned each loco? Richard Heather, never seemed to have enough money up front to restore 35018, so i would place doubt on if he genuinely owns those shares, if he does, he was very much in the JB camp, so i would say hostile to the MHR.

Are these old or new coals you are raking over, Martin?

    Old. Very.
Suffice it to say that the overhaul started under the old management regime; the current board etc. are a lot more clued up.

Quite - I wonder about what Martin hopes to achieve by dragging this all up.

Well, that's the first two words of your answer accounted for. What about the next fifty-odd?

To be fair to Martyn, he is only explaining why there is a current and and ongoing stop to the partly completed overhaul of 34105.

Certainly explains why little could be found and the danger of the written word not being "the word".

I have asked the Brains Department but the answer is "We don't know." It was suggested that it was referenced in Bradley, but I can't find it.

It was a day of little jobs atop the hill yesterday......

The safety straps on several vehicles, namely PalVan B782114 & LMS van B517317 needed new bolts fitting as they were hanging loose & Shoc open B725540 also needed a new safety strap fitting, as the original was beyond repair.

Six month exams were also carried out on the cattle van S53845 and the 2 plank open B726064. nothing untoward was found.

In amongst all this two of us found the time to have a trip down to Alresford in the hope that the GPV was still there, as it left Medstead before we could apply a vital finishing touch......

Happily it was, and we could now write the legends P/E & Oiled along with dates on each side of the solebar! :)

We also took the oppertunity to open up the van & see what the inside looked like........ :Nailbiting: to our delight, the inside was bone dry, with no signs of water ingress nor condensation, so it would appear that the small but mitigation measures we took to make the vehicle water tight have worked........ though it will be interesting so see what its like after some time in traffic & as it currently awaiting an FTR exam, along with several other vans, I'm led to believe the aim is for it to make its debut at the spring gala...... :)

All the little jobs don't sound like much, but its best to take your time & do them properly, so that was by all counts a successful day atop the hill & before we knew it, the 1st of the final Steam Illuminations were crossing & we knew it was time to go home for some well earned ale!!! :D

The missing legends applied to the solebars - Picasso, we ain't!!!

It were a c c c c..... not very warm day atop the hill yesterday!! :Cold:

With others confined to base, under orders, there were just two hardy souls in attendance & after a brew and a catch up over a breakfast bap from the bakers, it was time to pluck up the courage and venture outside.......

It had been reported that either the tube or pipe wagon had given up a vac hose to another vehicle & no one could remember which one, so off down to the very end of Bennett's we trundled & lo, it was the country end of the pipe wagon, the very last vehicle, hard up against the stops!!! :(

That was stored in the memory bank, as at that point we weren't sure if we had a decent vac hose in stock..... once back in the yard, we had been asked to try & retrieve a heavy duty tarp from underneath the Atlas........ that'll only happen when the Atlas is moved.....

After that, it was time to clean up the buffer shanks on all the Oleo buffers we could find, so it was on with the marigolds & out with the WD40 & scourers........ once the crud had been removed from each one & any excess removed with a dry rag, it was time to go round the whole lot again applying some axlebox oil, kin the hope that when the troublesome trucks are out to play, the movement on the shanks will force the oil to where it needs to be & reduce the odds of them becoming depressed......

Next, we went ferreting in the workshop van to find a decent vac hose, coupling, collars & sealing rubber...... this actually proved fruitful, so it was off down to the end of Bennett's, yet again, to fit everything to the pipe wagon - the damn things promptly decided they didn't want to play & put up a fight, not helped by having very little space to work in, but in the end we prevailed. :Cigar:

After a late lunch, back in the warmth, as the wind had picked up & it was getting colder...... it was time to sort out our errant buffers that had returned, but not to where they were! :Arghh:

Suddenly, it wasn't cold anymore as we had 'fun' yanking the buffers from where they had been dumped & then testing them to see if they a good 'un or a dud...... as we progressed, each one started to feel heavier than the last...... but after an hour or so it was done & the duds far exceed the good 'uns!

One of the buffer shanks 'before'.......

    And a different one 'after'

Vac hose finally fitted to the pipe wagon.

Do you use any mitigation measures to limit the build up of mould, moss and other crud?
For example "Wet and Forget" works well on gutters, fascias, paths etc.

    Can OLEO's be overhauled?

Apparently there is somewhere that will/can do them... if you're prepared to spend £500 per buffer.
