Merlin, London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) steam locomotive No 4486, August 1944. This steam locomotive was temporarily given the name Bryan after the son of the newly appointed director, Fitzherbert Wright, and numbered with the year of his birth, 1934. LNER official photograph.

Didn’t the same Director do the same for his daughters? As ever thread drift!

If you read the news item on the SVR website, it includes the fact that "We’re asking for entries with a maximum of 13 characters to fit on the new nameplates."

    https://www.svr.co.uk/2021/12/15/svr-locomotive-to-be-renamed-for-queens-jubilee/

Which does rule out Steamy McSteamface and Sir Gerald Nabarro among others. Curiously that fact is not repeated on the voting page (unless it kicks in when you try to post a name - I've not tested it and won't be bothering).

    John Pym is short enough!
Although may not fit the purpose the SVR is trying to achieve.

Yes, but only for the two older daughters (Brigid and Davina), the youngest daughter (Susan) was not honoured.
Susan Mary Wright (born 1937, killed in a car crash in 1990) went on to have a well known daughter (and grand-daughters), who if they had lived in earlier times, would most likely have had locomotives named after themselves.

    BALDRICK.

    Seems appropriate at this time.

Celebrating something British that was, and still is good.

If the SVR were to borrow 4003 from STEAM, perhaps it could masquerade as 4052 or 4060?

Also, if it is either Hagley or Taw Valley, both could display the legend

    "Cunning Plan Class"

    On the nameplates too.......
