    There's every truth in that.

The account from Steam Railway includes several inaccuracies but I will leave it there.

Can’t share the photo as it isn’t mine but I am a member of a group on Facebook called ‘Real trainspotting’. Posted in that group was a set of images taken on a trip to Swindon in 1963 which include one with 6018 mid ‘cosmetic overhaul’ with ‘Butlins Engine’ chalked on the lower of the right hand cab side sheet. Seen photos of the aborted overhaul before but never with the tangible evidence of the Butlins connection.

    This might work:

Chalked on the cab is "Billie Butlins Express"

    (Not my photo)

Still no evidence of what actually happened regarding the King. I am sure Mr Ogg was given a range of potential locos to choose and had to make a choice.

I did have a quick look at how much the 1963 cost of the Princess at £2160 and Scot at £1900 would be in todays money ?

    £41k for at Scot
    £47k for a Princess

    Grab yours now !
