It shows that the british are the leading in preservation of railway history. I really admire them!:)

Footage on Facebook of 80097 moving under its own power, so we're down to 60.

It's incredible, really, that something can spend 20 years in a scrapyard and 30 years being restored and still work like a charm. Although I don't have the time or money to contribute, it never ceases to astound me that people make this happen.

On 48518 I know the boiler and bogie frame were upcycled and the frames cut. Where please did the cylinders and driving wheels go?

    TIA

IIRC the cylinders went to Ian Riley and the wheels as spares for 48173.

I thought the 48624 group had the wheels? Unless they moved them on.

To update on some of these locomotives. At the GCR Black 5 45491 is virtually finished. The boiler has been repaired and has most of its cladding in position. It will be tested and returned to its completed frames soon after Christmas I believe. 7027 Thornbury Castle has been completely stripped down and refurbished parts are going back on the frames. The boiler and firebox are in very good condition as are the wheels and tyres. Completion expected 2022/23.
Meanwhile the SLL have been moving frames and both 35025 Brocklebank Line and 34010 Sidmouth are being very actively worked on at Sellinge. The boiler of Sidmouth is being overhauled (on the NNR) for use on 34053 Sir Keith Park to speed it's overhaul in 2022.

You could well be correct and I'm mis-remembering.
    Cheers,

The Stanier tender withdrawn with 48518 remained paired with it at Barry for some years until purchased to run with 5MT 45337 latterly at Llangollen

I take it that it had a replacement tank built?. The tank carried by that tender when at Barry was rivetted.
