I saw the guy at the stand from that programme about the NOR, very busy at all the stations accounting people will be busy. Just got back from the shed tour which was very good. Photos soon. Again the timetable slipped so don't stick to it!

Steve A saw you in the morning on the Carriage shed path.

My first visit to the NNR and it will definitely not be my last (I'm back for a photo charter in 10 days!). A very nice railway, which with the help of the sun, has many photographic vantage points. Saturday's timetable went completely pear-shaped but a worthwhile trip and having been at Swanage the day before meant I'd clocked up a few miles by the time I got home on Saturday evening.
Well done to all involved in putting on the gala, I hope you enjoyed the fruits of your labours as much as I did.
My photos of my visit on Saturday and why I was at Swanage on Friday can now be seen at my fotopic site.

    Cheers,

    Paul

Glad you enjoyed it, there seemed to very many happy visitors over the past three days. Did you make the open evening in the locoshed last night? There were many excellent pictures taken of the locos being put to bed. See you on the charter.

    Hi Steve,
I was going to stay on for the night photo shoot but with the timetable falling apart I became a bit apprehensive as my car was at Holt and having driven home from the south coast on Friday evening and driving again across to Norfolk I thought I'd quit while I was ahead.
    Next time perhaps!
I shall be back for 76079 on Tuesday week.

    Regards,

    Paul

Some Great Photos out there, well done guys! :D

Well, we've just returned home from one hectic weekend, was up rather early Saturday morning to drive down to Norfolk with a few others, we got there early morning and i looked at the timetable and the J15 came up with the two coaches on its way to Weybourne, and i was like :S that was suppose to go up ages ago, it was rather surprising how late things were running come the early afternoon, however despite the late running the amount of trains running was unbelievable, i remember standing on the very long straight bit on Sheringham side of Weybourne station and something had just left Weybourne bound for Sheringham and as soon as that had left the station there was another train just outside the station stuck at the signals, i was like wow! There coming from all over the place, some fantastic consists of engines i must say, i especially enjoyed the sight of 78019 and 76079 double heading, superb stuff! One thing that rather confused me was, i was on the long straight bit again just before 1306 and 76079 left Weybourne for Sheringham and i heard two chime whistles and i was like :-k What on earth is that? I never knew 1306 had a chime whistle fitted, not that i'm complaining sounded splendid alongside 76079. Anyway was getting on for 4pm and the amount of footage i had obtained was unbelievable and i just said to Paul, i've got too much stuff now for this coming DVD lets go ride on the trains for a while. So we went onto the platform got on 1306 and travelled behind her to Sheringham and then 44422 up to Holt, and what a sunset, i was rather jealous about the fact i was sat on the train and not out filming, never mind, the trains were jammed packed which i'm sure is a good thing and i thoroughly enjoyed the ride. After eating we returned for the Night shoot at Weybourne sheds and some of the things going on in there were untrue, there were kids running around, one of them tripped and was inches from falling into one of the pits, scary stuff! £1 was rather cheap so i added an extra £5 to the box on my entrance, really enjoyed the experience of going around the sheds although if it does take place again could some safety precautions be put in place? Anyway got back to the B&B at about 10pm bearing in mind we'd been awake since 4am, it was soon time for bed! Got woke up at 5:30 by the birds [-(. Anyway we turned up to Weybourne again for about 9:30am to see 44422, 65462 and 1300 being prepared on shed, after capturing quite a number of shots the rain set in and we decided to begin the rather long drive back, however as soon as we got to Lincoln to drop someone off it was blue sky!!

Anyway superb weekend and every credit goes to the guys at the NNR, myself and the others i was with thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and i certainly am looking into coming back down for the August gala. Well done guys!

Video and stuff is in the pipeline and should be available tomorrow sometime.

In resonse to Simon's query about Mayflower's whistle - On Friday she was carrying a standard LNER whistle, but on Saturday the owner opted to fit his replica BR Std 5 chime whistle (not authentic for a B1 but sounded really nice all the same). Meanwhile Ian Riley's Std 4 has an American 5 chime. Both sounded great as they echoed off the north Norfolk hills.

PS. We're doing it all again next weekend for anyone who missed this weekend's event.

I met the owner on Friday, seemed a nice chap and very proud of his engine (don't blame him)

Pictures I have found from Whitwell (anyone on here went, I'll try and go next week)

Ok, as the NNR web server appears to be down for me can anyone inform as to the following for this sunday:

    1. The price of a rover ticket for an adult
    2. The line-up for this sunday, ie are locos runninig
    3. A good B/B?
    4. If there are any evening events on the Saterday?
    5. And the last train on the sunday?

I'm seriously impressed by the picutres coming through, this gala looks amazing! This would be my first visit to the NNR, if I can make it and will cost me an arm and leg but at the moment it looks like its worth every penny!

    Ross

PS If anyone that is really good with timetables etc fancies helping me out it would be very useful. I'm travelling from York after 4 and need to be back by 11 the next day. However Rail enquires shows nearly hour long gaps between trains, just wondering if anyone knew a way round this?

    Well I can help with some of your questions;
    1. Rover ticket is £16 a day £27 for two days.

    2. The line-up for this sunday;
    4MT 76079, N7 69621, J15 65462, 2MT 78019, B1 1306, 4F 44422, A Class 1300

    4. There doesn't appear to be anything planned for saturday evening.

Whitwell admission is free I see, 3000 turned up I would of thought charging £2 or somthing would of meant £6000 towards their new engine appeal.

Being a bit of a post hog at the moment but The best option would be:
Depart York at 5.21 pm, go via peterborough Norwich to Sheringham
1 change at Peterborough and 1 at Norwich.
    Arrive for 10.13pm
    Night at B&B
    Have fun on the saturday
have another night in the B&B
leave Sheringham 6.22 am and arrive at york for 11.03am

£75 for train ticket (less if you have a rail card)
Some of the B&Bs look to have rooms free for £30-£40 per night
    £15-£16 for nnr ticket
So yes it may cost you an arm and a leg!

Thank you all. Dace, I've found cheaper I was just looking to see if I could save time seeing as thier are 50 minutes waiting times between trains on National Rail. Also have to be back by 11pm.

One final question, are there any stalls selling high vis jackets on the day?

The shop on Sheringham Station was sellling Hi-Vis vests I think for £4. If you want to go lineside you'll need a lineside pass. A one day pass is £5, a gala pass is £10 and is good for the whole weekend.
There are volunteers walking the line to catch those without a pass.

The website is back up and running now with all the info you should need.
