Injector overflow pipes have been dropping water on the third rail since the first electrification so no harm done. I think 35018 had the pipe not trimmed back far enough and it actually made metal to metal contact. Can you tell me where that picture was taken? Its one for the future.

I must admit I had assumed that water would have been on the third rail like this all the time, but it also made me wonder how close to a circuit being made it gets. My shots this morning were from the St. John's Road bridge close to Earlswood station. While some of the parapets have metal mesh above them, the slow lines sections do not. A good view of all lines, but quite a busy road so not ideal for video without a parabolic reflector.

Thanks, I've never heard of any problem with shorting out but someone on here may be able to explain why. Those high parapits that seem to be springing up everywhere are a pain, its why I usually have a stepladder in the car nowadays.

Indeed - my cameras have what I consider one of the most useful of modern features - the tiltable screen (and being 6'2" helps a bit!).

I’ve just heard an unconfirmed report that the tanker wasn’t late this morning, it didn’t turn up at all and the watering was done by the fire brigade from Lidl’s car park. I thought West Coast had their own road tanker DJ a bit of a mystery

Eek! So, if true, the LFB were helping to keep a fire going! What a mess.

My video of what I could get of Mayflower today after this morning's issues, captured at Godstone and Merstham over the M25, also includes Tornado's move to the WSR today.

And as a bonus, a photo of it over the motorway:

A location I like for its transport contrasts - I see the vandals have been wandering along the line. I've often thought it would be nice to catch a train end on both bridges - I've done it with one cab but the middle of the further train only. 'Mayflower' sounded very good from Redhill northwards in the dead calm evening air - my little video is here:

The roads around Clapham Junction are pretty snarled up right now. St Johns Hill is closed for 10 weeks and all the diversion routes have been pretty much standstill recently and throw in the extra traffic for the tennins so wouldn't surprise me if the tanker had got stuck.

I think it broke down. I have spoken to someone who was on the train who confirmed it was the fire brigade that came to the rescue

Recently updated on the trip from Paddington to Weymouth. 31st July

31806 is planned to be used too. Pretty much copying the same pattern as the Father's Day special.

Only in as much as avoiding the use of a diesel. The Fathers Day operation had a mini tour, this is just using the U to head the train back to Southampton prior to reversal.
Of course we all need to hope for some decent rain before then as two weeks of very hot and dry weather may mean the New Forest situation will curtail this opportunity.

Well LS have a diesel tour to Weymouth on Saturday and GW normally use part of Jersey Sidings so it would be busy, but yesterday the tour went to Dorchester South for stabling.
Unless Swanage are planning to operate a reduced timetable do not see how this would work with a two train service.

SD website still shows Weymouth (not very good) and I see the T&C's of travel are silent on what happens if the destination changes. Nothing wrong with Swanage (I live there after all and it has a lovely Heritage Railway) but if you were going for a double steam climb of Bincombe and Parkstone banks you have lost half the USP of the tour.
Looking at RTT with the GW unit appearing to remain in Jersey Sidings all day after it gets there late morning and needing to use both sidings to get the U on the London end of the stock then Weymouth was never going to work, even without the Statesman tour as well.

Railway Herald claims that the tour is confirmed to be going to Corfe Castle due to Statesman being at Weymouth and that the return is not hauled by 31806 so the LE path is irrelevant....

Nothing officially from Steam Dreams other than they are expecting the times today and will update us passengers in due course....

    Not great.
