    Preservation has its own nostalgia!

I went over the Severn Valley in mid June 1979, after visiting Stonehenge on mid-summer's day with some friends who preferred to stay there and enjoy the goings on, but I found one day of rock music enough and went off for a couple of days doing SVR on the Saturday and West Somerset on Sunday as it had just opened to Bishops Lydeard. Then back to Wiltshire to pick up friends. I think I had the better time, despite sleeping in the car because my friends had the tent and I couldn't afford B&B after buying petrol at 80p per gallon!

I remember going up from Bewdley to Bridgnorth behind a pannier tank, crossing 45000 somewhere and coming back as far as Highley behind Raveningham Hall - is she still working these days? I spent most of the day at Highley watching the world go by. All faithfully snapped on the good old Instamatic; none of the intense worrying about getting the master shot! Definitely, life was more carefree in those days, but I don't think many of us realised how the movement would grow.
