What you originally said was :

............. What the sdr is doing is making the station look really untidy .........

    Perhaps you really should apologise.

"The Merry Men of Washford" seem to be spending much of their time working on things that will be staying at Washford as the PLC's responsibility (mowing the grass and replacing the floor in the box). Have I got that right?

Pity a free hand at Itchen Abbas isn't on the cards. :(

From a purely selfish point of view, the Mid Hants is a lot closer for me than the Trust's former base.

It was, unfortunately by the time I got to Alresford I'd already indulged with Bacon rolls at Ropley so I couldn't manage it. Still next time :)

I was volunteering at Alresford on Tuesday morning, might have passed you on the platform (The GM was shunting a class 14 and No 1) My SDRT membership pack was hand delivered last night too!

We were there a bit later as he was using a clean, shiny class 20 by the time we got there. Your membership pack was hand delivered by the Chairman himself, but don't tell anybody otherwise everybody will want the same service ;);) upload_2021-6-23_19-50-53.jpeg

Ironically, the class 20 owners are the Somerset & Dorset Locomotive company.

It certainly sounds like the SDRT are being made very welcome at, and fast becoming an integral part of the MHR. I wouldn’t be surprised if the 7F becomes permanently based there after the initial two years.

And through a contact I gather that a lot of thinking is going into how to tell the S&D story at the MHR without it getting lost in the existing story line.

There is a lot in common, , single main lines, built as a secondary main line, the LSWR were closely tied to the S&D, there's a lot of history that overlaps, both lines, It would make sence for the 7f to become a permanent home based loco, allowed out on hire, plus, it makes a clean break for the S&DMT, Severing the remaining links to the WSR, In time, Once those who engineered the eviction are playing no part in the running of the WSR, 53808 could always make the odd occasional visit for a gala at its former home, That's of course assuming it is still there, theres no guarantee that it will be, where as the MHR, Isn't always seemingly tottering on the edge of insolvency. and should hopefully remain as a future potential home for the Trust,

S&DJR trivia item.... both of the first two lines associated with the L&SWR which were equipped with Tyer's Electric Train Tablet system (using the No 1 instruments) in the 1880s were called S&DJR :)

Given this thread has moved onto more positive things (unlike its parent thread sadly) perhaps a thread title change is in order? Something like S&D Railway Trust new horizons perhaps?...

Another excellent blog by the way.

Good idea. Title tweaked as an interim suggestion till Washford is no more.

I wonder if those responsible for the request for The S&DRT to leave Washford have any understanding of the ripple effects of this decision. Certain Charities have discovered that these ripples have disturb once stable relationships with other Charities. Consequences can have profound effects from such decisions.
