Agreed. I've been lucky enough to see Bittern in Garter Blue with and without valances (and not named Bittern) and BR Green but never got to see it as Silver Link, sadly. Same as I've been lucky enough to see Green Arrow as 4771 and 60800. Yes, I get that owners groups have the final say on liveries and that's only right - but I think it sad that some feel a loco can only be in one livery, ever. See also: Flying Scotsman. I was delighted when that was turned out as 601o3, and for the future I think I'm right in saying that it too could run in Express Passenger Blue (something I'd love to see).

    I'd love to see a line-up of A1, A2, A3 and A4 in Express Passenger Blue... or even a "Big Four" line-up.

I wasn't meaning it that seriously! I used to have a boss, and when a new piece of work came in, he'd wander around the office looking around saying " Now, let's find a victim".

I kind of knew what you meant, but it’s a strong word for what’s something to stop the metal from rusting! (Cue comments from our friends who wield a brush!) To get things back on topic to No7 I do like it in BR blue as it also winds up a former head of BR’s special trains unit.

    Matt

Just be a little carefully what you say about DHW, especially if you may not know him personally. I have been involved with mainline operations for over 30 years and had many run-ins with Wardy, at the time he was Director, Special Trains, and disagreed with and was openly critical of many of his policies and actions.

After his retirement from BR over 20 years ago, I got to know him much better, through his later involvement with 4472 and 6233 and our operation of those locos, and, whilst still disagreeing on, shall we say, his 'singular approach' to main line steam, I think we both developed some respect and I enjoyed listening his opinions - and still do.

I would happily concede that he stood up for steam in the BR era, almost single-handed at the senior level, and without him, I doubt main line steam would have survived until privatisation.

Getting back on track for the umpteenth time...

The 'Sir Nigel Gresley' Locomotive Trust Ltd

Another update from York, lets hope as the lock down lowers, the trust can get more volunteers on site to help towards completion.

I have always had a soft spot for SNG - the first A4 I saw in steam - and I am looking forward to her return to the mainline immensely. Best wishes to everyone involved in the overhaul, the work looks smashing.
