It will be two out of the Schools, the S15 or the 9F. The Whitby engine (either of the two Southern locos) takes over at Grosmont and works on to Whitby and then back to Pickering. Today it was the S15 to Grosmont and Repton after that. I'm the Whitby engine fireman on Monday, so come and say hello at Whitby.

The 9F is on washout at the moment so it will almost certainly be the Southern pair on Monday.

Did the NYMR not apply for the Government culture grant?

I've heard that they did. Maybe it will be one of the £1M+ awards yet to be announced?

Hi, looking to visit the railway this forthcoming weekend and I'd like to know if anybody here is aware if 29 will still be operating the shuttle then as opposed to any other loco? She's my favourite loco (you might have already guessed from my profile pic and username :p) and I'd like to travel behind her if possible. Just want to check before I rush into booking my tickets and then turn up at the weekend to find she isn't running

Any reply would be much appreciated :D

Hi Lambton, sorry I can’t help you but 29 had been operating all week except for today when it’s been the J27.

Ah well, not exactly what I was hoping for, but I'm a fan of the J27 too so I don't really mind too much ;)
Got my tickets booked and looking forward to tomorrow, I'll just have to wait and see what ends up happening I suppose :p
Thanks for informing me by the way :D

Enjoyed a visit to the NYMR on Monday, shame about the weather being rubbish. A-side from a delay getting on to the Whitby branch the journey was very pleasant (& Rather quiet as only about 40 or so people onboard)

Finally we have been granted access back to work in the yard.
    After being absent since March.

Volunteer numbers limited to 2 per day and nominated previously.

However not a lot of choice as to what to do, as the task ahead will be long lasting and is very obvious.
As previously noted we have been given the redundant track materials from the recent relay on the ESK valley line between Danby and Lealholm.
Most of the rail is being shipped straight out for scrap due to condition and the lengths it has been cut into.
Being loaded out at about 25t a load, 2 lorrys yesterday.

The sleepers, all timber, need to be graded for condition then stripped and stacked for disposal.
The only problem being the amount, 4600 of them at about 100 per day means 46 days work in the offing.
Mostly the sleepers were fitted with chairs for Bullhead rail but some stretches of FB rail and baseplates are mixed in.

Here goes folks, what's possibly the Moors smallest steamer Lucie, on the Grosmont - Goathland shuttle. With the J27 "Banking"......

No mention here yet of the further damage sustained to Cow Arth bridge at Goathland on Tuesday morning. Some weeks ago about a third of the north parapert at the east end was knocked over. Then on Tuesday a local delivery van caught the eastern end of the southern parapet knocking the corner stone off and the rest of the parapet, held together by iron railings, followed it onto the railway. This caused considerable damage to the railway, especially to the newly installed S&T infrastructure, as those parapet stone are some size and weight. I understand that the relevant highway authority will begin reconstruction work next week but it is expected that the road will be closed for most of the next month. Here are some views taken this afternoon - in view of the weather I did not stay around to see Lucie's test run later in the afternoon. mini_IMG_0157.JPG mini_IMG_0162.JPG mini_IMG_0159.JPG

Fingers crossed. The huge effort to keep going must be draining. We came up at the start of August and enjoyed a great trip to the summit and back. We are coming up today for a week in Pickering from Oxfordshire and have booked a trip to Whitby for Sunday and a rail trail on Wednesday. NYMR is consistently the highlight of our holidays. Thank you to all of the team who make the NYMR such a fantastic place

Anyone know if the Coastliner Bus has had to be changed for a single decker and be diverted via Moorgates?
Or is it allowed over the bridge?
