What then is the answer, the thing is isn't everything a bit of a lottery at the moment? just because someone may live in a " hot spot" doesn't mean they might have it, as you say, any test is an indication of the time it was done, clearly if someone is high risk, or not well, then don't travel is the best advise .

Maybe if I knew the answer I would be one of the ones next to Boris at the Downing Street Briefings. Many far more qualified people than me do not have the answer Martin.

The gala is now sold out. There will be no tickets available on the day. We are looking to welcoming ticket holders to what promises to be a great event.

Noting the comments above, we are minimizing the risk of transmission so far as is possible if everyone uses the hand sanitizer, stays to the seats allocated, wears a face mask on the trains and in buildings, stays home if they feel unwell, and stays 2m apart from anyone not in their group, then the risk will be as low as it can be made. We all have to look after each other though by following the rules.

Lots of good points there. Yes a proper lockdown would prevent travel to and from such an area but the Govt are trying to take the middle course to enable life to continue reasonably normally. There will be risks but the majority I am sure will attend the Gala and enjoy it. We have bought tickets but in view of the current situation and my health issues we may opt for linesiding and a nice long walk

Set B on Saturday for me too. Really pleased with that, I can start at Alresford at 9:15 and get the return trip behind Bahamas in early (which is obviously the top priority). The rest of the day will then depend on how confident I feel about how things are panning out.

so thats 3 of us on the same train, I'm a Martin too, i'm going to catch the 09.15 do a round trip, get off at Ropley when the loco's change, have a look round, see if any of my old friends are about ( i'm ex loco) , have a bite to eat catch the 13.38 behind the 7f, that gets back to Alresford at 15.28 depending on other plans, ( might be visiting my sister in Farnborough) either call it a day then, or if plans change get one last trip behind 506 , it will be strange riding the cushions on a line I used to fire on. :(

Looks like we're all on the Green Train (B). Look forward to it even though it's going to be a very different event to what we're used to. I was a little surprised that the ticket wasn't accompanied by any explanatory notes. While those of us on this forum hopefully know how it's supposed to work, will everyone understand that they are supposed to stay on the same train all day?

We can’t all be in coach M surely or is it reserved for the real hard core grocers? We have seats 17 and 18.

I doubt everyone has fully understood.
You have to carryfully plan where you want to take a break - if you get off at Alresford or Alton it is either 17 minutes or 2.5 hours. The best place is Ropley on an Alresford bound service, I plan to get off Pass B/Green Timetable at 13.03 behind 76017 and rejoin for the 13:50 departure behind 53808.

While the West Country Buffet at Alresford will be takeaway hot food -see menu https://www.watercressline.co.uk/shopimages/locations/Gala Menu.pdf - with only 17 minutes, unless you are near the front of the queue you are unlikely to get it before departure. Note I would like to have some hot food and real ale but the gap before my next train is too long.

Coach M seat 35 if anyone wants to say hello. Isn't it strange - the last steam gala I went to was at the Mid-Hants. It was the Flying Scotsman event at the end of February. We'd all heard of Covid 19 by then but some of us were optimistic in thinking it wouldn't affect this country badly and was mainly a Chinese problem. Little did I know that there would be no more steam galas for 6 months and that at the next one we would be expected to wear masks!

That was the last Steam event I went to as well. My family made three visits to the MHR when Scotsman was there. Glad we did. It was a great event just before the world changed to the strange days we now live in. We had also intended to visit for the six Bulleid carriage event but the virus situation was beginning to get serious so we didn't bother. With my Dad being extremely vulnerable to the virus we stopped taking him out after the Scotsman event. As I help my Mum look after my Dad I decided it was not a good idea to attend the Autumn Gala after the virus spread has increased again.

I hope that the Autumn Gala goes well and everyone behaves themselves.

We are on Set A on Friday and set R on Sunday. Will wait until the forecast is clearer to firm up travel plans for the two days; hope the weather smiles on us.

Predictable as it may be, I'll have to get in first with some sort of remark about it being full of vegetables!
