The SDR have had confirmation of an HLF Grant of £124,800. At least some good news for the South West heritage scene.

There was something about the railway being closed due to flood damage to the bridges.

    Any news on this?

I'd guess she will spend majority of the season away from Buckfastleigh.

They'll probably want to check the work done at Llangollen first of all!

So they can see how boiler work can be done properly presumably.

If you say so, the SRPS might not agree? If there's been any mechanical work done the Patriot people might not agree?

You should know the true facts before making statements such as these !

I'm not making any statement, I'm just going on what the two organisations I've mentioned have said! In the light of their experience, surely any organisation with a loco under contract overhaul at Llangollen in the same time period would be wanting to check the work done on their engine?

So, the clear implication from that is that you know the true facts, and they are different from what's been reported. Please say more about the true facts, and how they differ. I don't have any allegiance to either side here, so if things are different, that's fine with me.

'The reports are wrong', with no details, sounds a lot like what my previous professional field used to call FUD (Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt). Several groups of serious people have reported that they spent fair sums of good money on re-doing work that they felt needed to be re-done. Why?

I would tend to doubt that those loco-owning groups had enough unhappiness with Llangollen to provide motivation to spend a lot of money just to make Llangollen look bad. So a generic 'the work was actually OK' or 'they were confused' doesn't have a lot of weight. I suppose they could have spent the money doing things that had not been done yet, and then inaccurately reported it as re-work (with the aim as stated), but that's a pretty serious charge too.

And do keep the First Law of Holes in mind.

The hoped for Polar Express at the SDR is now cancelled. I believe this also applies to Telford, North Norfolk and Wensleydale railways.
The Seaton Tramway will still run its Polar Express however.
It does seem that the high costs of these events and others and giving second thoughts to many lines. Possibly the costs and rewards are not matching up in an ideal way. The large infection increases may also be a factor.

Well, JBTE, South Devon isn't in the same boat as your neck of the woods just yet. But the DSR is still going strong.

I would imagine to open and run trains as soon as possible, but it all hinges on the announcements from Boris.

They haven’t seem want to run any trains when there has Been restriction. So they won’t start again until theres are no restrictions at all. Other railways have managed to open but they haven’t seemed want to do the work change their Carriges so they still won’t be able to open. It is annoying as I want to go there but not if they don’t know the Covid 19 rules about making screens go up
