Can anyone tell me if any enamel totems or other specific signs for the Midland route into and out of Leeds City were made, in maroon, before it transitioned to the North Eastern Region in 1958? I’ve only ever seen tangerine versions. Did it take until ’58 for the old LMS signs to be replaced?

    Thanks in advance.

Brennand & Furness list only the NE totems. It certainly had LMS Hawkseyes - e.g. see https://www.gwra.co.uk/auctions/lms-cast-aluminium-hawkseye-leeds-city-ex-station-2018nov-0276.html

A very interesting question when one considers Totems started being erected quite quickly after Nationalisation.

I suspect the Hawkeyes, originally painted yellow with black lettering with balantini spread over the yellow areas, stayed up until totems were erected.
Some Hawkeyes were cast in two halves as they could be quite large. An example being Apperley Bridge and Rawdon which is about 5 foot long when both halves put together.
