You probably wouldn't, but the WSR is not like other railways. It is a badge that is worn with pride, not being like other railways and staggering from crisis to crisis, incapable of saving itself through timely reform. And as for red route, they are hard pressed to maintain blue route. Anyone got a modest fleet of yellow route locomotives?

Unless, of course, It was hired in on one of those 'special' WSR agreements to run without charge for 10 years and then...:p

Not at all. Auditors are required to include a review of the Company's Governance documents and confirm that the financial actions taken are in accord with the legal requirements.
They would be obliged to "flag" the accounts if there was an undeclared conflict of interest of the kind described.
This, in turn, can have detrimental roll on effects with lenders and other financial sources.

Long queues reported at Holford, Somerset due to an HGV hauling a large black engine.

    Farewell to 53808. You'll be missed. <BJ>

So hang on... Foxcote arrived in Somerset what, three or four weeks ago, and is now heading back to the Llangollen already? How on earth does that make any financial sense in the current climate, let alone the risk that is involved every time a locomotive is moved on to or off a low loader? Wouldn’t it have been easier to leave it North Wales and just burn some £20 notes?!

Well apparently to make a small fortune from steam traction you do have to start with a large one... If this is true it doesn’t come across as very clever.

Strange 7822 is going back to Llangollen already. Do they have a sudden need for it? Obviously no work for it to do on the WSR at the moment, so why move it there in the first place?

Wasn’t it due to go to the WSR and was then turned away around the time lockdown started?

Yes it was due back this year. However it’s long been obvious there will be no work for it there this year, so why the rush to send it there?

Something to do with it’s steam test? It was on this thread many many pages ago. Apart from the obvious this year It’s rather strange 7822 seems to have done more miles on a low loader this year so far than with 2 bits of steel under its wheels.

I read it as the steam test just being a routine hing you do when a loco arrives, I don't think it went to the WSR for any work to be done. At the time it was noted that it was technically returning from an unplanned visit back home at Llangollen (possible something else failed and it was needed over winter in Denbighshire?). I guess it's understandable that the owners don't see much point in it sitting at Minehead not doing anything if it could be at home pulling trains, just a bit odd that they went to all the bother of returning it to WSR in the first place. Not like there's been a recent drastic change of policy from the Plc board in terms of operating.

Nothing to do with the steam test. It’s the Foxcote Manor groups decision to return to Llangollen as the WSR is closed and there are no steaming days on offer but at the same time LR have a loco shortage so the deal was struck for 7822 to return to North Wales to cover. It’s planned to be in regular use between now and October they then plan to return to the WSR for their reopening. All explained on the Foxcote Manor FB page.

The winter was because of a Loco shortage at LR as is this return.

Contractually the loco was always due in Minehead this year and that was why it went there. If there wasn’t a loco shortage it would of remained there, circumstances elsewhere are what have caused the flying visit.

To be fair, they did have a visit from that well known GWR branch line engine 'Flying Scotsman'.

This is all going over my tiny mind.
As I understand it a loco has an agreement at one railway (ha!) in Somerset but then goes back to the other railway it calls home in North Wales to help out late in 2019.
Due to no fault of its own when due to go back In 2020 to it’s railway in Somerset it gets turned away due to unforeseen circumstances.
It spends 3 months halfway between Somerset and North Wales in a hauliers yard, then goes to Somerset for a month or so, then goes back to North Wales? And both these railways are having trouble with their finances?
    Hmmm.
