So pleased that this project is finally coming to fruition. When I first saw the pieces arrive at Wallingford I thought it was going to be a huge ask as it hadn't been dismanteld very sympathetically. Thanks to the Railway Heritage Trust and Network Rail for sticking with this project! Look forward to the official opening (probably next year), fingers crossed with a GW steam loco.

Great to see Wallingford finally getting a more permanent station. The extra land acquired for the canopy will allow a run round loop and plans have been drawn up for a loco shed as well. Exciting times!

Walked Cholsey station to Wallingford along the Thames Saturday and the n popped round to the station. The works look really impressive (viewed from the road) with iron work and woodwork overall roof in situ. The canopy will transform the station site. It's due for completion in September. I spotted the Sentinel steam loco at the Cholsey and of the station platform - beyond the canopy works. From the railways Facebook site it's possible to donate to the line which I have done.

Might be worth getting the photos from heritage painting put on here, they seem to be updating with photos more often than the main railway homepage

The pictures on Heritage Painting's Twitter and Facebook feeds look amazing. This canopy should transform the Cholsey & Wallingford, and make great steps towards turning it from a line where volunteers operate old trains into a preserved railway!

Interesting video from the CWR on Facebook showing the progress and discussing some of the future plans for Wallingford station:

The sound is not great, but hopefully they can resolve that for next time.

One for @Breva - around 11 mins 30 secs there is discussion of a large lamp that used to be at Wallingford. Looks suspiciously like the ones made for Broadway? Might be worth sending them the makers details?

I'm actually already in contact with them, and we will be meeting at Broadway very shortly. Thanks for the tip!

They mention in the comments that their plan is:
Finish the canopy and add signage, benches etc
    Run round loop
    Engine shed
    Signal box
    Station buildings

The picture above posted by @Robkitchuk seems to be an older plan, as they have now moved the canopy in relation to the platform to allow the run round loop to also be covered.

Richard Standing (presumably someone involved with the CWR) also posted this pic on Facebook (buried in the comments): https://scontent-lht6-1.xx.fbcdn.ne...=7dcadbf8236cd9967a5d1bef91787040&oe=5F77F465 with the comment "Here's my model of it - I've had to compress the length of the rest of the station a bit but it should give you an idea." Unfortunately it doesn't show the signal box, loco shed etc

I believe the partial canopy attached to the main train shed room will be used to cover the old Cambrian coach as part of the museum aspect of the site at platform accessable height

    Some good news from Wallingford!

We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded £15,700 form the Culture Recovery Fund for Heritage. As a small volunteer run charity, these funds are vital to ensure we can reopen in 2021 and be Covid secure. No public trains have run in 2020, but we can't wait to operate again next year and show off our improved Wallingford Station with the new Victorian canopy from Maidenhead taking center stage.

C&WR Chairman Tony Stead says "This grant is a great endorsement of the railway and all our dedicated volunteers. It will not only cover our fixed costs for six months, but it will allow us to ensure that we can be Covid-safe when we are able to re-open. Not having to use our reserves to cover fixed costs allows us to invest in improvements to compliment the massive changes that are underway at Wallingford Station. We hope to be able to welcome everyone to a station with a greatly improved ambience reminiscent of train travel from the past, as soon as it is considered safe to do so."

With work to redevelop Wallingford Station gathering pace, we need to free up siding space so a run round loop can be installed. Three vehicles have initially been identified as surplus to requirements and we would be interested to hear from other preservation sites that could offer them a home.

The first is Siphon 1043 of 1955 (http://www.cs.rhrp.org.uk/se/CarriageInfo.asp?Ref=95). The body is no more sadly, but we believe the bogies and underframe to be in reasonable condition. The second is a German Flat wagon, of which we know very little. At some stage it was fitted with a hydraulic lift, but this has since been largely removed. Lastly is Saxa Salt Van 45, this is a wooden bodied vehicle in quite poor condition.

I have tweeted pictures of all three vehicles here - https://twitter.com/CWRailway/status/1337653508372389889?s=20

If you are interested in viewing any of these vehicles at Wallingford or finding out more then get in touch! Send us an email info@bunkline.uk, or drop us a line through social media.

Meanwhile on site the platform under the canopy is being prepared for stone slabs to be layed today (Saturday). The Cambrian coach body housing the museum will be positioned against the right hand platform face.

I just received the following via email from press@bunkline.uk which may be of interest to some. . .
(Note I have no connection to the CWR so I only know what is shown below or on their website).

    Hello,

Every year the Kenavon Railway Society hold a model railway show to raise funds for the Cholsey and Wallingford Railway. With the impact of COVID, this years show has been moved online.

This years show will be online from 10am this Saturday (20th) to 5pm on Sunday 21st by clicking on the link below or visiting http://www.kenavon.btck.co.uk/Exhibition

There is no charge for admission but donations to the Chosley & Wallingford Railway are appreciated.

The show 25 different layouts, and includes some fantastic layouts including "Henley on Thames", "Old Elm Park" and "Locdown".

The discussion was about the Wallingford canopy, not an exhibition coach.
I don't know why I'm typing this, but anyway....please show us this spare siding at Cholsey that is accessible to the public and won't get in the way of either CWR or NR trains.

Earlier this week, the CWR acquired a nice 5-lever frame. This will be useful for the run-round loop at Wallingford and it seems in reasonable condition which is a bonus.

They have got a limited number of volunteers now working on critical items to help us prepare for re-opening. If you want to help then get in touch!

Picture in the latest marketing email & on facebook.

Will this be used as a gf or is the intention to build a signal box at Wallingford to house it? If so, where would that be in relation to the overall roof? TIA

Steering the conversation back into the realms of reality, this is excellent news. C&W is making the right moves and noises. Did I imagine the AlCo has departed?
