Salvage Hunters looks to me the Vultures are starting to circle the Railway already. Be interesting to see who the next opportunists are who turn up .

I hope that doesn't mean that the plc newsletters are as a one time Swindon Borough Solicitor of many years standing said many times regarding council documentation - "are open to interpretation". I am sure you will be familiar with said gentleman, now retired.

I think everyone on here would like to know unambiguous facts, not something they perceive as facts!

Please encourage the Director now responsible for public relations to be more forthcoming whilst obviously maintaining board confidentiality.

Yes I gave them some stuff I acquired in Swindon - sadly I have never seen it displayed so hope it was none of this or I shall have something to say on the subject!!

It is axiomatic that anything that is on loan or known to belong to a third party could not possibly be sold without their permission. However, if something was given to the museum/trust with no preconditions, then the trust is free to dispose of it, subject to the disposals policy.

The type of response that doesn't encourage me to repeat the exercise should further things become available as there was no acknowledgement or appreciation shown either at the time or at any time since!

As far as the steam trust is concerned, there were four items. One was not a railway item at all. The other three were not of gwr/wr (or their ancestors) origin and of no interest to the gauge museum. You'll need to watch the progrsmme to see them. I understand that due to the recent lack of programme making, it may be transmitted soonish.

Richard. I don't know when you donated the items or what they are. Contact me off line and I can investigate.

Its not so much about being a charity, more about things that have been given "in trust". This is why we have the aforementioned policy and process to.cover it.
Any such organisation must be able to dispose of items. When I was the museum curator, I often used to think that we received some things because we were more accessible than the municipal tip. Often people would just leave junk as a museum donation. Maybe they thought we operated as a charity shop. The current refurbishment has seen a lot of this irrelevant junk disposed of. If we couldn't dispose of it, the whole musrum would be clogged with black sacks.
Please be assured that no meaningful or valuable or items on loan were harmed in the making of the programme.

Previous Salvage Hunters episodes have included visits to the NYMR and Dartmouth among others, so I wouldn't read too much into it.

(My bolding in your quote). I can certainly relate to donated 'junk'.
    That's reassuring, Ian, thank you.

I have been thinning out my collection recent years - its mostly White Funnel & IoMSPCo stuff.

I took some to Bristol City Archives last year and they were quite clear about what they did and did not want, so if anyone wants some 70's IoMSPCo postcards.................

There is one question you could answer. How much due diligence did you do before bringing people onto the PLC board?

You did do due diligence didn’t you?

Had the PLC classed the items as irrelevant junk they probably originated from the S&DJR. <BJ>

    Ian,(Ikdab),
has made quite a few posts explaining the Museum policies and some details of the tv people's visit and their purchases.
What an amazing contrast between the Steam Trust and the PLC regarding concerns by people.

whilst we await the next eastenders moment (think drums) emanating from somerset perhaps we could have a game of the spot the difference

I had assumed something like that, however just saying "you should delete your post" without saying who "you" was, seems meaningless to me.
