Thanks for timings, about to book. Will it definitely be 70000? Don't mind which, as long as it is steam!

I was tempted to book this one myself, it's a lovely route. But it looks like Saphos still aren't allowing single bookings - their website has two passengers as the minimum you can book.

Definitely not - there are - or were, most are out of use, only 20 of them in the 700xx number range, so no number 70022. Maybe it's a tornado?.

What’s the latest you can book? Surely you can justify them a case to book just one seat if there’s 24 hours till the tour sets off with say 10 seats spare for example?

I will forgive you for perhaps not thinking the above through before posting, but I kinda think that kind of defeats the object of social distancing does it not!?!

Unless your friend is part of your social 'bubble' then that would be stretching the rules too - there is a good reason why groups are being kept separate and Saphos have gone to a lot of trouble to satisfy many rules to allow these trains to run.

I agree however a phone call 24 hours before, or even a pay on the day enquiry maybe worthwhile if they have the odd seat to fill.

Perhaps that was a little irresponsible of me. Sorry.

I appears that the complete train will be turned at Shrewsbury. https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/K09877/2020-08-05/detailed
Operation wise, as the train is running in top 'n tail formation, that does make sense. Unfortunately it will mean that the mk.2s will be behind the Brit all day.
On 12th August the complete charter of the Bristol to Plymouth service will be turned at Plymouth. Once again the mk.2s will be behind the Brit all day. <BJ>

Perhaps not, if I read this move on Sunday after the train got back from Kingswear, it was turned before being run back into Barton Hill. UPDATE! On second thoughts, it only went up to Lawrence Hill and reversed so that thought was wrong!

Given we have been allocated coach H for the 12th, which is the Mk 2 behind the locomotive, this is good news for me!

Last year we could hear Braunton no problem in the third mk2 from the loco.

    Not necessarily.

If the mk.2s come back at the front (Taunton end) on Wednesday then as the Plymouth train goes out via Bath and Westbury then won't the mk.1s be at the front?

But the trip is Cardiff to Plymouth via Bath on the 12th.

So if it's the Mk2s out of Bristol behind the locomotive tomorrow, and turned in Shrewsbury, that means that the Mk2s will be at the Taunton end of Bristol station upon returning. So the locomotives next Wednesday will be on the Mk1s when the train leaves bound for Plymouth via Bath.

Yes, that's true. Well spotted that man. I hadn't realised that the route was via Bath and Westbury. <BJ>
