Eleven pages of discussion on wnxx, some about arcane topics like 47/7 electrical gear. One 47 required for other duties (Statesman etc) and two off the road at the moment.

One of LSL's 47's broke at the weekend, so I think the 37 is temporary for this week only.

It's an odd-looking rake, isn't it? The shiny modern livery of the Mk3s, the chocolate and cream and the mismatched engines at either end. Not that it matters, but it looks a bit like several different eras have got mangled up together in some bizarre time-travel fandango.

Interesting to see this on the BBC News website :

It's a private venture, so face coverings are not mandatory - though many guests do wear them.

Sounds like what Saphos have said?

Yes. that surprised me as well as that's not what the company's web site says about wearing masks when travelling.

Today the new rules on masks in public come into force. It includes you having to wear a mask if you visit a shop/cafe to buy a sandwich but not if you are having a meal in the same place at an appropriate social distance. So on a train it still remains a grey area. By limiting the number of people who are travelling and giving them specific seats you can meet social distancing requirements when people are seated and that justifies a company like Saphos saying that you don't need to wear a mask, I guess.

So you walk into a station and have to wear a mask. You stand on a platform and have to wear a mask. You then get onto a train with sealed windows and no natural ventilation and you can take the mask off (if you wish). And, of course, if you then eat a meal in that same space then that's ok as well. But if you move around on the train then please wear a mask.

    Complicated? Confusing? I think so.

You don't have to wear a mask on the station, only actually on board a train. Though how a ticket office is any different from a shop where you do need to wear a mask is anyone's guess.

Ticket offices tend to have screens or windows between you and the staff?

Alternatively the government might just be making it up as they go. Hard to believe, I know.

Or perhaps you are relied on to use your own common sense and initiative. This of course does make it difficult for those who have neither and must be constantly given instructions about how to take care of themselves.

True but Network Rail advises people to wear masks on stations as well.

Quick correction, it's actually tomorrow that this comes into effect. I hope the police have enough resources*... they'll be fining just about every person that walked through my work's front door tomorrow and Saturday!

    James

    * of course they don't, but whatever.
