So it made it then. Is that point the southern end of the loop?

What's the cricket bat for in the front window? Beating off taggers or grumpy members?

That will become the entrance to the station, to the left (with the VEP on) being the permanent mainline connection and the right being the platform and run round roads (when the loop is installed)

The bat is to denote that the handbrake is on, and will come in handy for beating off youths as you say

How accessible is that location? Only looking at it, there are trees either side, and if my memory serves correctly there is a bank going up one side and down into the valley the other?

Its a paddle and when you see one in a window it is an indication that the hand brake is on in that cab.

Looks very easy to get to, one of the photos above shows some housing with a non vandal proof fence beside the point. I wonder how the unit will look tomorrow?

The track looks really great, no sign of drainage works, new ballast placed on old etc. just like most other bluebell extension works! I wonder how long we will wait to see it having to be relaid / major drainage works.

    Here we go... ](*,)

I'm sure if someone stumped up enough cash to dig out the tip, build a station and lay that track, we'll be delighted to give you the VEP! Any takers?

    You are quite correct Chris.
However, having the VEP there doesn't produce the cash to dig out the tip, nor build a station, nor lay any more track than SWT and NR have provided. It may attract some income towards those desirable schemes by being there but it is almost certain to attract attention from a more undesirable element.

The Bluebell are fortunate in that SP, HK and Kinscote are relatively remote from populous areas and generaly have at least some sort of overnight presence at each station. Quite sure that is NOT the case at EG so we will have to see what transpires.

    My purely personnal opinion is...
Great day for the Bluebell Railway.
Good day for some people, Steve exepted.
Very poor day for The Bluebell Preservation Society.

Presumably the unit is now safely covered in some nice new tarpaulins?

Which is unlikely to stop the "taggers".

When was the last time you were in East Grinstead? I've spent an awful lot of time there, and never seen any evidence whatsoever of these supposed hoards of vandals and graffiti artists hiding in every shadow waiting for a 4VEP to return so they can go and break it inot little pieces and ship it off to China or wherever. OK, so there are a few graffiti signs, big deal, every town in the country has them. The majority of people living there are people who commute into London for work, businessmen or pensioners. These three are all, as we know, all out to tag whatever they can. East Grinstead is a traditional market town in Sussex, it's not a hotbed of crime. If the unit were parked in Crawley, maybe I could understand the worry (hell, I would be worried), but East Grinstead is nothing like that.

When was the last time I was in East Grinstead?,Thursday afternoon actually watching two examples of lowlife armed with an impact drivers shattering windscrrens as they walked along. I reporting them to the Police and offered the "Old Bill" my photograghic and video evidence. Police wer not interested ,"too much paperwork" they said.

So let me ask you my dear little Steppers , whats stands between the "taggers" and the 4-VEP at East Grinstead?, possibly only a .303 snipers rifle I wouild think.

    Have a nice day.

if, god forbid the unit was be vandalised and it was clear that the bluebelle could not look after it properly, is there a clause in the sale that will allow swt to take it back, to prevent any further deteriation of the unit , im not trying to deride the blue belle, but it is out on a limb where it is unless the bluebelle are planning on starting work at east grinstead , extending the track up to the site of the tip and building the station building at the same time as the tip is cleared

In all my time in East Grinstead I have never seen anything of that nature. I've never even seen anything approximating to that occurring. It has to be said, that is a fairly remarkable thing to be happening in any town, it can hardly be seen as a usual occurrance.

As to the protection offered the VEP, I haven't seen this compound where the station site and unit are, perhaps someone who has could be more specific? I doubt very much it's completely open with the unit stood there and a large neon sign above it saying "tag me!"
